So, finished OB part 2, and it was amazingg. the Odium reveal was so peak. I don’t have anything to rant about really, except for shallan’s character in general. i love shallan, do not get me wrong, but her different personalities are so weird. the fact she refers to them as different people is insane. i understand that she’s all about lies and stuff, but it’s weird nonetheless. ALSO i loved the interlude after part 2, where the soulcasting savant died. describing her body evaporating and everything gave me the creeps. now it’s time for character ratings.

LAST PLACE: Amaram. fuck amaram.

SECOND TO LAST: Moash. fuck Moash, but his chapters were fun to read.

3rd: Shallan. she is a little annoying to read, but she’s fun nonetheless.

2nd: Kaladin. he didn’t even have a PoV in part 2 but he was still lovable.

1st: Dalinar. same reasons as my last post.

now question. i’ve read over half of stormlight back to back. i kinda wanna take a break and go into Scadrial/ Mistborn Era 2. is it okay to take a break from stormlight? if anything, im gonna read AoL/SoS and then go back into RoW

Marking it as WoR because i haven’t finished any of the later books.

so straight to the point here’s what i think:

Matt: Windrunner (cares about protecting people

Frank: Skybreaker (cares about justice)

Foggy: Matt’s squire (give your opinion)

Kingpin: No clue

Karen: No clue

Bullseye: No clue

give your thoughts as well as other characters

so i finished OB part 1 yesterday and i loved that. the interludes were pretty interlude-y.

the reason i made this post in the first place is 1: to check up and give progress and 2: the first 2 chapters of part 2, 33-34.

34 may be my favorite chapter in stormlight. if you don’t know it’s when he’s talking to Fen in a vision. “Maybe you’re right! maybe i am a tyrant! Maybe letting my armies into your city is a terrible risk. But maybe you don’t have any good options! Maybe all the good men are dead, maybe all you have is me!” not the whole quote but holy shit chills

and chapter 33 gives a lot of lore/ worldbuilding revealing Jasnah’s order, shallan and jasnah talking for the first time since wind’s pleasure, jasnah in general. i love these characters so much.

and now, a list of characters:

last: moash. fuck moash. confidently, after finishing WoR, i can confidently say fuck moash.

second to last: Meridas Amaram. i hate this guy, but i respect him more than moash, whose name i refuse to capitalize.

5th: Navani. GIVE ME MORE NAVANI SANDO!!! I DARE YOU!! (i fucking love Navani, but she deserves more attention.)

4th: Lift. she’s amazing. especially after reading edgedancer, lift is awesome.

3rd: (this book specifically). Kaladin. same with Navani, i love Kal, tho so far he hasn’t gotten enough attention. he’s gotta get back to Urithiru. i think his last chapter in part 1 where he escapes the parshmen/singers was awesome.

2nd: Shallan. Shallan has one of my favorite character arcs in the last book, and also i love Veil. i don’t think that the multi-personality Shallan’s are a bad thing because Lightweavers are literally all about lies/illusions. but yeah, she’s awesome, and now that Jasnah’s back and has PoV’s this part, she may take navani out of my top 5, and depending on how much screen time she gets, maybe Kaladin out of my top 3, going to 4.

now, finally, after all this waiting…. 1st place… DALINARRRR! he’s so cool, his chapters are so cool, his flashbacks might be my favorite so far, and he’s just an interesting character. I know a few spoilers, some pretty major, >!I know that Dalinar learns how to read and writes oathbringer, and i know he kills Evi.!< But by the Almighty, he’s just cool. him bonding the Stormfather? peak. him existing in world? peak.

finished WoR, and in the Epilogue, Jasnah and Wit talk about her on “the other side”. so that implies she was in shadesmar, which is the cog realm, meaning technically Jasnah was a cog shadow?

loved the book overall, and am excited to read edgedancer. gotta say my fav part is when Kal get’s Syl back after swearing his 3rd ideal. that or *the duel*. you know which one i’m talking about.

i knew Dalinar was a Bondsmith going into this book, but i wouldn’t have EVER expected him to bond with the fucking stormfather. peak. now i’m going over my favorite pov characters, interludes not included. (i loved the interludes, and not ranking all of them my favorite was lift, followed probably Rysn.)

Last Place: You know ‘im, you hate ‘im, give it up to the worst character in this whole damn book DALINAR /j. Sadeas. i mean Sadeas. who doesn’t hate this guy. one of the only fictional characters i say deserved to die

in second to last we got Navani. i love navani. however her PoV chapter imo might be the worst one in the book. i dislike it solely because there should be more. i wanted to see her grieve her daughter through her eyes, but instead she got one chapter at the beginning of part 3. it was important, but there should’ve been more

next we got Adolin. i love him. he’s baby. however, i don’t love how he’s a racist prick before part 3. still he’s awesome and i love him. and he killed Sadeas, aka the worst character in this book, so he’s amazing.

TOP 3

3;we have dalinar. in my part 2 review, i had him near last because he didn’t have a lot of chapters. i completely take that back. he has some awesome chapters in part 4/5.

2:Shallan. probably my favorite murderer ever. her arc is peak, and chapter 88 is awesome. that’s when it’s revealed that she kills her mom. i also love her arc as veil, infiltrating the ghostbloods, and her meeting with mraize at the end is awesome.

NOW FINALLY THE BEST STORMLIGHT CHARACTER……

KALADINNNNNNN!!!!!! i love this dude so much. him losing Syl was awesome, coming to realize that Elhokar was Dalinar’s Tien and then fighting moash (fuck moash) to save him and regaining syl after swearing the 3rd ideal for windrunners was awesome.
