Capgemini postponed our final interview slot after shortlisting us — does this mean rejection?

Capgemini recently came to our campus for the role of Service Transformation Consultant. Around 400 students were eligible. After 2 assessment rounds, only 9 students were shortlisted for the final interview on Superset.

My interview slot was in the first batch at 12 PM along with 3–4 other students. But when our time came, nobody from the company joined and no interview happened. Later, the students with later slots (around 3 PM) got their interviews completed.

After some time, we received a message saying that the first-slot candidates would be “taken shortly” and the interview was postponed. Since then, there has been no update from Capgemini or Superset, and today is already 27 May.

I wanted to ask:

Has something like this happened to anyone before?

Do companies sometimes hire directly from the candidates whose interviews already happened?

Or do they usually wait and complete all shortlisted interviews first?

Would appreciate honest opinions from people who’ve experienced campus placements or Capgemini hiring.
