Just found a very biased YouTube video complaining about this sub…
I’m sure a lot of you already saw it, especially if you were on the sub when the video came out in mid 2024. I’m going back and forth about whether I should watch it or not. On one hand, I don’t expect the arguments to be good, which could entertain me for 17 minutes. On the other hand, the comment section disgusted me. Some of the points that stood out to me were:
Calling people schizophrenic for pointing out that the unborn can’t consent (even though it’s true, they can’t).
People saying suffering is just a part of life (I’ve always hated when people say it is what it is).
People saying we’re privileged and assuming we live in first world countries. Yeah and people in poorer countries tend to have the most kids. This means that any given person who is born will likely be born in an African country or somewhere like India. Not to mention the fact that rape is more common and abortion isn’t available in those places.
People saying we don’t know what true suffering feels like. I’m sure most people on this sub have these beliefs because they’ve suffered a ton and are empathetic enough to prevent others from experiencing it.
People saying these beliefs stem from mentally ill people and are just (false) trauma responses.
Assuming everyone here is suicidal or nihilistic (separate things) and saying we’d want to live if we were put in a life or death situation.
Assuming everyone here wants humans to go extinct and are actively trying to achieve that.
One of the worst ones in my opinion is someone saying that this is a product of an autistic hyper fixation latching on to people or characters who have these beliefs. I have autism and it’s not uncommon for people with it to have lower pain tolerances and be more sensitive to pain. All it takes is one google search to figure this out. I haven’t even experienced the worst kinds of pain in the world. I haven’t been stabbed, shot, had kidney stones, or been severely burned. Despite this, I feel like the physical pain I have experienced is too much to justify bringing someone into existence knowing pain is pretty much inevitable.
Most of these comments simply state their opinion and don’t provide any reasoning as to why they think that or where that information came from.
Obviously I haven’t covered every comment in the video, and if I missed something please feel free to add on to this list.
