YG Day-Date green dial - gen comparison / visual differences

YG Day-Date green dial - gen comparison / visual differences

Hi guys

I own this gen YG Day-Date with green dial (pictured) and I’m interested in doing a detailed comparison against some of the current rep versions.

For anyone who owns one or has compared one directly with gen, what are the main visual differences you’ve noticed? Particularly interested in the dial, case shape, bezel, bracelet, crystal and day/date.

Weight and gold colour aren’t particularly relevant to the comparison, as colour can be corrected by replating.

I’m interested in differences actually noticeable to the naked eye, rather than things only visible under magnification.

If I end up picking one up, I’ll post proper side-by-side photos with this gen under identical lighting for the community.

Received my Clean Factory Root Beer back from GoldJaws - my thoughts (photos & video)

After sitting on the fence for quite a while, I finally decided to send my Clean Factory GMT-Master II Root Beer to GoldJaws for his Everose replating service, so I thought I’d share my experience for anyone who’s considering it.

First things first… the photos and video are completely unfiltered and were all taken indoors under normal household lighting. I’m no photographer, so they’re certainly not going to do the watch justice, but I’d rather post realistic photos than heavily edited ones.

Like a lot of people, I thought the stock Clean Root Beer was badly let down by its colour. I’d been spectating for a while and was a bit apprehensive about sending a watch halfway around the world, but in the end I decided to take the plunge - mainly because I had a watch that wasn’t getting worn, as the stock colour was absolutely nothing like the genuine Everose colour 🤣

I’m based in the UK, and the whole process was much smoother than I’d expected. I sent it to GoldJaws via UPS, it arrived with him in just 3 days, he completed the work 5 days later, and after he posted it back to me it arrived exactly one week later. Communication throughout was excellent, and he kept me updated with photos and videos during the process, which definitely helped put my mind at ease.

Having now got the watch back, I’m genuinely impressed.
The biggest difference is obviously the colour. It’s lost that bright copper look and now has a much softer pink hue that’s far closer to genuine Everose. The bracelet, case and clasp all match nicely, the brushing is still crisp, the polished surfaces look flawless, and nothing looks overdone or heavily plated.

One thing I really like is how much the colour changes depending on the lighting. Indoors it has a subtle warm pink tone, while outside it comes alive in a way that looks much more natural than the stock finish.

Is it an exact match to genuine? Honestly, I couldn’t tell you without putting it side by side with a genuine Root Beer in the same lighting. But I can confidently say it’s a massive improvement over the stock Clean plating, and for me it’s transformed the watch and I’ll actually wear it now.

Ironically, it’s created another problem… 🤣

Now that the colour has been sorted, I’ve realised the crystal has probably become the weakest part of the watch. Before, my eye always went straight to the rose gold colour. Now that’s no longer an issue, I find myself noticing the crystal instead. The stock Clean crystal is ok, but I think a Deep crystal will probably be my next upgrade to improve the clarity and get a stronger black-hole effect under the cyclops. Funny how fixing one thing makes you notice the next weakest link!

Would I recommend having it replated? If, like me, you’ve always felt the colour was the biggest giveaway on an otherwise excellent watch, then I genuinely think it’s a worthwhile upgrade.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with the result. Massive thanks to GoldJaws for the quality of the work and for making what I expected to be a stressful international process surprisingly straightforward!

Happy to answer any questions if anyone’s thinking about doing the same.

How do experienced buyers separate genuine top-tier reps from “1:1” marketing?

I’ve been buying high-end reps for a couple of years now, mainly clothing (LV, Celine, Prada, Loewe, Casablanca, Balmain, Canada Goose, etc.), along with the occasional bag, shoes and sunglasses.
One thing I’ve realised is that almost every seller claims to offer “1:1” but the reality can be very different. Sometimes the quality is outstanding, to the point where I cannot see or feel any noticeable difference to the genuine item, other times it’s pretty average, despite all the marketing.
For those of you who’ve been in the rep game for a while, how do you separate genuinely high-end pieces from the hype?
What QC points do you always check?
Are there certain details that immediately tell you whether a piece is top-tier or mid-tier?
How much weight do you give to factory reputation versus the seller?
Have you developed a process that consistently results in getting the best available version of an item?
I’m not looking for specific seller contacts or advertisements, I’m more interested in learning how experienced buyers judge quality and avoid wasting money on pieces that don’t live up to the “1:1” claims. I wish there was someone who I could pay a premium to who would source the best available version of the particular product that I want.
Interested to hear how the veterans approach it.
