Can I just... Run victory points systems entirely behind the GM screen?
I tried it and it worked, but it was basically an influence subsystem that I didn't tell the party was anything but an RP. When an argument would be flat out effective id award 1 (maybe 2) influence points. They had weaknesses and resistances that came up, which affected their (100%) secret checks.
The biggest criticism people seem to levy against influence and other subsystems is that it's immersion breaking, but this way was the best of both
