Floor beds- advice and stories please!
My daughter is nearly 8 months old and we’ve been co-sleeping since she was 3.5 months old. It wasn’t meant to be a long term thing but here we are 😂 my husband has been relegated to the nursery where he sleeps on our old mattress (which is too soft for co-sleeping). Baby and I sleep separately in a king bed but she’s now mobile and I’m considering longer term options.
We’ve been trying to get her to sleep in her cot but I refuse to do any sleep training so success has been limited - can usually get her down but she won’t stay in the cot for longer than one sleep cycle.
I’m not sure whether to try and persevere with getting her back into a cot or whether to try a floor bed, as other Reddit users seem to love it. I can really see the appeal of it. But there are a couple of things which I’m not sure about:
I would still have primary responsibility for putting baby down at night, which means I’d continue to be limited with evening plans. I didn’t go out loads before pregnancy but I’d like the option to occasionally meet some friends for dinner (and to have an alcoholic drink or two!). Before the sleep regression (when baby slept in the crib) my husband used to do bedtime and I’d love to get back to that arrangement.
I’d like to travel more with baby but I think we’d need to revert to co-sleeping in the normal hotel bed as obviously couldn’t take a floor bed with us. So we’d still have the risk of baby falling out of bed etc. For travelling in particular I’d rather she slept in a cot.
Although I would of course fully baby proof the nursery, I still feel a bit anxious about the idea of my baby being able to crawl around in there unsupervised!
I’d love to hear your stories please 🙏 and especially any thoughts on the above! If you did use a floor bed with your little one, how old were they when you stayed leaving them alone all night? All advice gratefully received!
