Qualifications for fresh grad dev roles seems unreachable
I studied Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and is about to graduate this August. I have 1+ years of experience in full-stack development during my academic year using Next.js, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Tailwind CSS and Vercel. I also used cloud technologies like Supabase, Cloudflare and Azure. To learn all this, I studied, watch courses and rely on AI tools.
To be honest, I didn’t get an internship that I wanted although it’s not that bad since it improved my problem-solving and analytical skills. We also made a great impact to the company’s operations because we developed a project that improved their business processes. In the end, I didn’t push through with that company because I wan’t to take the path closest to software developer/engineering fields. Because of this, I focused on learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL and React from scratch just to freshen up myself on these tech stacks (and because it is the bare minimum).
Now, I’m currently hunting for dev positions with junior or entry-level experience. It’s been a week and I haven’t got any interviews. Basing on the qualifications I’m deeply overwhelmed on what they are expected from you. Java, PHP, Python, C#, NoSQL, jQuery, Django, .Net, Linux, Jenkins, GitLab, Oracle, AWS, Azure. It seems landing a first job in this field is pretty hard (correct me if I’m wrong).
For those who’ve been in the same situation:
- How did you land your first dev role?
- As a fresher who’s willing to learn and is about to start his career, what advice can you give?
Any suggestions or answers are appreciated. Thank you!
