Consultative Exam
I had my physical consultative examination this week. After hearing all the horror stories, I was really nervous. I was emotionally prepared for the appointment to last 5 minutes and to walk out feeling dejected. I think I got lucky beyond belief though.
My appointment took over an hour, not including time in the waiting room or with the nurse! The doctor did a full work up, discussing my history in depth and checking my body head to toe. He looked at everything I mentioned and took diligent notes the whole time. He even did some walking/stretching tests I’ve never had a doctor ask for before. And I was having a bad medical day so he got to see some of the actual struggles I face, not just hear about them.
At the end, I worked up the courage to ask if he thought I was a good candidate for getting approval on the first try, and of course he told me that he has no direct say in the matter, but he also said that his report will be in SUPPORT of my case and he thinks I have a good shot.
I know the odds are still stacked against me, but I just feel so lucky. I keep getting people who are kind and who seem honest. I’ve yet to run into someone who isn’t firmly in my corner.
Is it always like this? Is everyone just actually really nice to your face and working against you as soon as you leave the room? Am I getting ahead of myself with being optimistic?
