Coolant low - normal or concerns?

Coolant low - normal or concerns?

Hi! I noticed my 25 HEV’s coolant level is below MIN and this is when the vehicle was hot. When I looked again overnight the coolant level is a bit lower than what’s in the picture. Car drives normal and just at 5,000 miles since last service. Should I just get coolant and top off or is this something or a concern? Thank you!

Annoying things of the Niro HEV

Hi everyone, the Niro is mostly a great car for what it is. Probably best at what it does: efficient, roomy, comfortable, easy to park, relatively cheap. No car is better than Niro for all 4 areas combined. But let’s list out the annoying things for the Niro and I hope most are fixed by the facelifted 2027 model. Mine is 2025 HEV.

I’ll start.

  1. Reverse camera location - it’s super easy to get dirty and every train will leave water on the lens, and it’s impossible to see. It should not be where it is (no cover from dust / water) -> this is addressed in the 2027 model.

  2. Interior hard plastic rattle - cup holder front and back, door pocket: hard plastic and bottles / cans rattle -> mostly fixed by buying interior soft material cover.

  3. Rear hatch squeaking - many potential fix included adjusting the two black dots… mine was replaced a rear hatch strut - still have this problem going over bumps

  4. Wiper rubbing windshield - with auto-sensing set to low, the wiper would rub the windshield. Set to high would somewhat fix this, and set to highest fixed this. I have the Bosch Icon wipers less than one year. Anyone have similar issue?

MPG appreciation

It’s that time of year… warm weather MPG appreciation before the -10 MPG dive in the winter :)

Connecticut to NY commute, usual highway / local traffic, I certainly wasn’t driving slow at all :) Real MPG might be 56-57ish, but continues to be impressed by the 2025 SX HEV. No other cars have this good MPG with this much room inside.

Napier Stanford Fuller posted on Facebook.

He shared his experience leading 5 climbers who died and how Nims helped him after he had a free fall. Nims and Yukta climbed whole day to get them free food.

Really great insights into the climbers: Mallory, Sohail, Kilu, Yukta and Gyalu Sherpa.

10k miles review - 2025 HEV SX

The Niro HEV continues to be the best car for its price after 10 month of driving, although quality continues to be an issue for Kia.

I paid $500 below MSRP for the 2025 HEV SX last August and just hit 10,000 miles with a variety of city driving and fast highway driving. I averaged about 47-48mpg, and have visited a Kia dealership 6 times.

The good:
- near luxury features on the SX model
- near luxury driving experience in lower speed / HEV mode (smooth shifting, independent suspension)
- most interior space for its length, city parking is super easy
- good, very good turning radius
- MPG. Summer easily 50+, winter 40+.
- the look and two-tone interior

The bad:
- clear gap with luxury vehicles in suspension and sound proof.
- major tire noise and wind noise from highway driving - clearly limited to none sound proofing. Acoustic front windows are awesome but mostly helpful in lower speed.
- car leans a lot in highway driving
- car is bouncy and feels sometimes unsettled in city driving
- vibration - if you put anything in hard plastic areas it vibrates
- annoying creaking noise - trunk (solved with turning the nobs out)
- quality - visited dealer 6 times with a mix of bad luck and Kia issues

  1. Headlight leakage - fixed under warranty
  2. Seatbelt buckle stuck - turns out to be a piece of cloth from my winter jacket got stuck - fixed under warranty
  3. Flat tire - blame this one on Northeast bad roads
  4. Sudden check engine light - lost electric power - loose crankshaft sensor - fixed under warranty
  5. Replaced rear hatch struct (as part of noise diagnosis)
  6. Front wheel alignment - blame this to the worst highway in Sprain Brook pkwy, parts of saw mill and Taconics

Driving experience enhancement
~$1000 invested
- HED headlights
- Bosch front wipers
- WeatherTech floor and trunk mats and trunk organizer (only brand have matching grey color)
- aluminum pedals
- center arm rest padding (matching grey color)
- various interior trims (I wish they have natural wood)
- decals

Next steps
Will enjoy the car for 1-2 more years before getting a luxury car next!

Happy to answer any questions.

2025 HEV rear trunk noise?

Hello, I’ve been experiencing this issue for a while and wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience/solutions. My car is 10 months old with 9,000 miles. Regularly driving through very bad roads in NYC but maintained very frequently.

My 2025 HEV SX has the subwoofer in the trunk. Since the car was new it had this rattling noise when I turn the car in lower speed to going through bumps / road cracks. I drive in NYC so this is a daily event. The rattling noise sounds like something in the trunk is not tied up but I’ve made sure there’s nothing in the trunk.

I’ve brought the car to the dealership and a technician was able to reproduce - he replaced the rear left hatchback strut under warranty (I had to visit twice because they needed to order the part), each dealer visit is a 3 hour journey.

While the new strut (he said he observed internal failure) reduce the “mechanical noise” that sounds like it was from the suspension, the “plastic rattling / creaking noise” still is there. The technician checked the rear seats (they are loose) and truck area but couldn’t really identify where. He just said it’s a Kia they all make some noise :) Everything can be tied is tied.

While not affecting driving - again this is only noticeable when lower speed and turning the wheels hitting imperfect roads, it is very annoying. The dealership is willing to take another look but I didn’t have time to go back again - I’ll probably wait till the next oil change.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Thank you!

Atom AR hoody alternatives?

Hello everyone! Looking for something similar to my beloved Atom AR hoody but can’t seem to find anything soft and warm now!

I started with Atom in 2009, and practically wore it most days in my life. Work, walk, on top of some of the biggest mountains in the U.S. , epic adventure in the snow storm, it did it all. I had to replace it in 2019 finally, and I bought the Atom AR, which to me is even better: simile weight, warmer. I didn’t use it as much in big adventures as I got married and had kids. In the past 17 years I also bought several Atom AR jacket for my family as gifts.

Fast forward to 2026 and the Atom AR is starting to show wear the back. I went to the Arc store and all new atoms are so thin and the shell feels plasticky! The Atom SV seems to be a replacement but I guess they are retiring it…. No inventory available.

Is Arc still making something soft, all-round, awesome as the Atom AR? So much competition now and everyone is making an Atom similar jacket. But the joy and memory of the OG Atom will forever stay with me - any recommendations? Thank you!
