Oil Change due again?

2024 Kia Niro PHEV 22296 miles. According to my last oil change I've still got a couple thousand miles to go at 25382. But the car has started telling me, again, it wants an oil change. We are taking a long road trip, a few thousand miles, in a few weeks. Should I get the oil changed? wait a couple more weeks? wait until we get back in November? I think I read somewhere that you need more frequent changes if you take a lot of short trips, which we do, just a couple of miles on days we drive it with an very occasional road trip. Thoughts?

Any experts here know what it could be before i go back to my dealer? Thank you in advance.

Solved: leaf stuck interieur filter fan.

HEV & Check Engine Light- Quoted $3000 to repair. Is it worth it?

A few weeks ago we had a HEV and check engine light come on during a long drive in our 2019 Niro HEV with 185,000 KM. Up until this point we have had no major issues with the car. We took it to our mechanic and he took a look and said didn't see anything wrong with it. So he cleared the error and we used it for a few weeks without any issue. However during another long drive we had the same lights pop up again. I took a look at a few things and noticed the coolant for the battery was low. So I filled it up and the lights disappeared again for another week or so. Then the lights continued to come on when ever we drove it. The car seemed fine to drive, however it was a little jerky when shifting gears.

We took it in to Kia to have them run a diagnostics check. They came back with a quote to replace the engine clutch assembly and slave cylinder. It was roughly $1000 for parts and $2000 (CAD) for labor. The service agent that I spoke with mentioned that the car would be fine to drive short distances. But that the repair would need to be done at some point.

I brought that quote to our mechanic and he suggested we should trade the car in. Apparently the transmission needs to come out it is a rather large job.

My question is has anyone ever run in to this issue with their Niro? What was the outcome? I'm curious to know if it would be worth fixing or if we should just trade it in.

2022 Niro EV — faint repetitive clicking at low speeds/braking. Wheel of Fortune issue?

I have a 2022 Kia Niro EV with about 23k miles. I’ve recently noticed a faint repetitive “click click click click” when moving very slowly, and it seems especially noticeable when braking/decelerating.

The car drives and brakes normally otherwise — no warning lights, grinding, vibration, or loss of power.
I’ve read about the Niro EV “Wheel of Fortune” motor/reduction gear issue (TSB ELE234), so naturally I’m wondering if this could be an early sign of that, or if this sounds more like normal brake/rotor/caliper noise.

For anyone who has had the Wheel of Fortune issue:

Did yours start as a very faint clicking?
Was it noticeable during braking/regen?
Did it also happen while accelerating/coasting?
Did the clicking get faster with vehicle speed?
What did Kia ultimately diagnose/replace?

I’m taking the car to Kia for recall work anyway and plan to ask them to road-test it and check the noise while it’s there.

Would appreciate hearing what yours sounded like, especially if you have a video/recording to compare.

This may be the end

She quit on me this morning driving to work. In the shop being checked out.

It's dead.

We (had) a Niro EV hit some road debris unavoidably recently. It was fine for a week or two, then kaput. Damaged battery casing, total loss. Apparently our model year had a less robust undercarriage. Shrug. Oh well.

2020 Kia Niro PHEV – jerky gear changes

I have a 2020 Niro PHEV with 86,000 km / 53,000 miles, and I’ve noticed some slightly odd behaviour during gear changes.

It’s by far most noticeable when driving on the electric motor. During acceleration, it feels like the car briefly increases its pull around the gear change, followed by a noticeable jerk. It happens at the same shift points and gets more noticeable with harder acceleration, especially when using adaptive cruise control.

I can also feel that the shifts aren’t always completely smooth when the petrol engine is running, but it’s much more noticeable in EV driving. Hot or cold doesn’t seem to make any difference.

My local mechanic test-drove it but couldn’t find anything they considered abnormal.

I’ve discussed it with AI, which mentioned DCT adaptation/touch point learning or software as possible explanations. That’s only a theory though, and I don’t want to focus too much on it.

Has anyone with a Niro PHEV experienced something similar? Is this just normal behaviour for this transmission, or did you find a cause/fix?

2020 PHEV at 29,000 miles. Michelin energy savers down to the wear bars. Supposedly this is 80,000 mile tread

I pretty much only drive on East TX highways. Has anyone here tried to use the treadwear warranty? Are the Continentals better for tread and economy?

Is Kia Niro 2019 12V battery under battery warranty?

My car didn't have battery a few minutes after I stopped it. It happened many times so I had to use my manual key. Then one day, there was the message ""Check Hybrid system. Turn engine off", my car couldn't drive past 15 mph. It happened 3 times so I brought it to the Kia garage.

I was confident that it would be covered by the 100,000 miles battery warranty and I have 91,000 miles. I left my car there for 3 days, my kids missed 1 day of school, I had to rent a car and now, the supervisor told me that The part number 37507G2120 (control module) is under basic warranty (which expired) and not under battery warranty..

The cost of the repair is $1500. That's a lot for me. Should I try to call another Kia garage or just pay $1500o

My car broke down the day after a major service(Niro)

I took my car to Kia for a service just to keep it in check and my car has been perfect for the last 30k odd miles and then this is what came up when the car broke down. The next day when I got the car back from Kia the car was overheating so I turned it off and then turned it back on after 5 minutes just for the car to never start again , the battery has gone flat and the dealership is still working on finding the problem. Any help?

Can I jack here?

Hi I'm a newbie DIY'er here.

I own Kia Niro 2024 HEV and was wondering if this will be a safe spot to put floor jack on besides the pinch welds?

Also, does anybody have any tips on jack placements for tire rotation? (I have floor jack + 2 jack stands). I'm struggling to find the best position for my floor jack towards the middle-rear to lift both rear left and right side at the same time. I resorted to simple front to rear rotation instead of forward cross because of it. Thank you in advance.

Joined the Club

I joined the Niro club here in the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago specifically. In terms of trims the Caribbean Kia dealerships get a Niro that's basically a combination of the LX, EX trim with some SX stuff included. Besides weatherproof mats which came with it anything else that's a must have accessory.

Reflection

I recently purchased a 2023 Kia Niro. I love everything except the sun reflection that blast my eyes from the center console during the day. Does anyone have a solution for that? I’ve just been putting a straw hat on top of it, but then I don’t have access to the gearshift.

Check Hybrid System - Turn Engine Off. But no codes.

2018 Niro HEV. Yesterday I was driving in a storm. Driving in town, moderately heavy rain, wet (but not flooded) roads. Driving a steady 35mph. Suddenly the car dings and says "Check Hybrid System - Turn Engine Off". The engine did indeed turn off, but the car ran on electric power. I went a couple blocks, pulled into a parking lot, turned the car off and on again, and it ran normally and got me to work and back.

Here's where things get weird. Last night I pulled out a code scanner. There are no stored codes. There are no pending codes. All emissions checks are healthy. All diagnostic scans are healthy, including the engine, transmission, BCM, and inverter. The hybrid battery reads healthy.

So ... wtf? The car seems fine. I'd expect any condition severe enough to shut down the engine and put the car in limp mode should store a DTC. I wondered if my scanner is missing a proprietary DTC, but:

  1. It recognizes the BCM.

  2. It's able to read proprietary diagnostic codes, because it was able to tell me that the right front TPMS sensor is bad (which I already knew, and is unrelated).

Has anyone had the car go into limp mode without any stored faults?

Dog car seat belt

I have a 2018 Kia Niro Hybrid. Does anyone recommend a seat belt for their dog that would actually click into our belt? I tried two from Amazon and they don’t deal to want to click in. TIA

Do I need fuel stabilizer?

Hello we purchased a 2025 Kia Niro PHEV 2 months ago and have only used 1/4 tank of gas since my commute is short. Do I need to do something about all this fuel I haven’t used as I’m sure I won’t use the whole tank the dealership filled up for us 2 months ago. My husband was saying he will put fuel stabilizer in it but I’m worried that will wreck something. I’m sure the dealership only put in regular gas. Also I have no clue when to get my first oil change. Bought the car June 13th and they’ve scheduled it for December but my son says to do it under 2000kms for the first one, what do you think?
EDIT thanks everyone. I will drive with the fuel to burn it off and put premium in next time and use fuel stabilizer if it sits too long

I almost got rear-ended yesterday

Kia Niro HEV 2023 here.

I was on my way to pick up my girl after a birthday party, and maybe the guy got his accelerator stuck or something but as soon as I heard the tires screeching when passing over the speed bump, I accelerated immediately.

I really don't know if that helped or if the speed bump helped to reduce his speed in the precise second or both. 🫢😬

Lights flashing when i open and close trunk - i hate it!!!!!

I recently purchased a 2023 Hybrid Niro. Most things about it are great. One thing I absolutely freakin hate is how the exterior lights - front and back - flash on and off and make a beeping noise every single time i open or close the trunk with the button. I HATE THIS! Does anyone know how to turn this feature off? Is it possible? I go camping quite a bit, and when the car is parked and OFF at camp, I want to open and close the trunk as much as i want without getting blasted with flashing headlights and taillights in the peaceful darkness. It is truly so obnoxious. Anyone else annoyed by this? Please help! I have searched and searched through every setting and looked online for answers, but the only tricks i can find are about the interior trunk light (which is also quite awful and bright white and on the side of the trunk, but that’s a separate post). Nothing about the exterior lights. Why the HELL do these lights need to go off like that when opening the trunk anyway? Drives me bonkers!

End rant. Thanks for enduring that and i welcome any and all possible fixes. Please help!!!
