Hi All - transplanted Midwesterner here. I would be the first in my family to do something like purchase a lot of undeveloped land. I'm coming here because I truly have no family/friend to call up and ask for advice.

In the next few years, I would love to buy a 1.0-1.5 acre of land and build a modest home for personal use - not for vacation rental. I would be so grateful for any advice, including names of professionals you think I should reach out to (attorneys, surveyors). I'm a single female so I'm also worried about getting taken for a ride.

The advice I've gotten so far has really gone over my head - hence the "explain to me like I'm 5" (I'm not, but you get the idea).
