What are your favorite tropes.
I mean when a fic uses a trope well what are the ones you get most excited about.
For me it’s either Weasley bashing or Harry getting a different wand.
Both can be super interesting.
With Weasley bashing, if you don’t do the normal they just follow Dumbledore and he’s bad so they are. You can make them have history with the marauders, add to the history of the families and have each member have their own reasons for doing what they do. Sadly it’s not done all that often.
With Harry getting a new wand there are so many different things you can do, make more things about wand lore and general world building. What components are best used in wands and even things like “custom made” wands. Instead of it being a really expensive wand that is very tropey. Have it be so that the owner of the wand actually creates their own wand.
Put more effort into the brother wands, could Harry use voldies wand? Could voldie use Harry’s wand. What made the 2 feathers choose them and those particular woods, what if you combine the 2 wands.
So what are your favorite tropes when done super well?
Just anything where the things involving the DA is different.
Like where Harry doesn’t just let everyone walk over him and demand he is the one who runs it, someone else leads it, Harry just isn’t friends with the main people wanting it so he teaches other people.
Or the best is where he actually realizes how much he likes teaching, and is good at it so it changes what he does for a job and his meeting with his head of house.
Ok with all bashing, slash and all that.
It can be because he has a sibling who is, or Neville is or even voldie never died that night and there is no BWL.
Just that, they help each other out, become friends and believe that Harry didn’t enter himself and needs help getting better.

It can be a complete AU where Harry is a vampire and has been living in Argentina all his life and hates Dumbledore lol. Or it can be a relatively canon compliment fic where the changes start in GOF, or anything in between.
Just that, they help each other out, become friends and believe that Harry didn’t enter himself and needs help getting better.
Basically at the end of GOF, instead of a crazy, insane snake like man. He’s Tom Riddle, handsome, incredibly smart and powerful man returns.
It can be because Harry is on his side and helps him or because Riddle is smarter and able to think straight when he’s trying to get his body back realizing his mistakes.
Interested in if he’s able to convince Harry to change sides, if Dumbledore changes his plans at all, if Harry changes at all. Etc.
I came across a fic a while ago that went more into detail about wands and it got me thinking about what others think and other wands Harry could legitimately use.
(Not the ohh Harry you have a wand with 5 woods and 25 cores, it used to be Merlin’s and you are the most powerful wizard in existence at age 9)
In the particular fic I read, it was a one shot where Tom riddle comes back in the GOF, but he’s not so crazy and snake like lol. It’s not really explicitly said if it’s Dumbledore bashing or just tom not liking him and saying it’s his fault.
Tom kills Harry. But before that, he tells Harry that he could truly be just as powerful as him. He explains that having a phoenix tail feather means, your extremely powerful, devoted to those you deem worthy, aren’t swayed be others opinions if you and stay with your values.
They don’t care about good or bad but more your own mind set and power.
While Yew wood, is about offensive, curses and aggression. Holly is more about healing and protection. So while Voldemort could do some of the most powerful curses and such, Harry would be able to use the most powerful shields and such.
Truly the wand to fight Voldemort.
The wand combo that I thought about after reading this was. When Harry gets his wand at ollivanders it’s a dragon heartstring core. Some of the first few Harry tried out were those, so I figured that’s what Ollivander was thinking would be the easiest fit.

So now, close to 2 years later in the chamber of secrets. When facing the basilisk, his wand breaks. Either tom breaks it or in some other way.
When Harry is getting a new wand, he learns a bit about wand lore and what makes them fit to a person.
Of course he was just bit by a basilisk, he still has the fang, and he’s a parselmouth. Seems pretty obvious that it may work in some way as a component for a wand.
No wand at Ollivanders will bond with Harry, eventually Harry asks about the fang, somewhere in that Fawkes comes in and chooses Harry to have his feather, so now Harry has 2 cores for a wand but no wood. Easy enough to see wand wood Harry bonds with the most, it’s holly.
So it’s a holly, basilisk fang that bit Harry and Fawkes tail feather that Fawkes deliberately gave to Harry.
I know Harry getting his wand is a bit out there lol. Havnt thought of a good way for all of those components to come together yet but thought this was cool.
What do yall think. Any other wand? Or ways Harry gets his wand?

Where Dumbledore realizes with voldie still alive, and coming after Harry when he does eventually come back Harry will need to actually know everything. Where he doesn’t wait until the last second and only when he’s going to die.

I’m in need of some reading material. I’d love fics where either Harry is actually involved with the order, he’s told what’s going on and he helps. And he isn’t just left in the dark after watching his friend get murdered and tortured by the dead man that killed his parents.
Or the complete opposite, where Harry is left alone and he’s had enough and just runs away or leaves in some way -maybe he never truly goes back to the Dursleys. And just tells Dumbledore and the order to fuck off and they should’ve been relying on a 15 year old to do everything when they aren’t telling him anything and leaving him in an abusive house.
Is anyone else super annoyed/ disappointed when Harry has a twin/ sibling and when they get a wand and now Fawkes gave 3 feathers instead of two?
Like really now you are just being unimaginable, so many cool things you could do and you just up the number of feathers Fawkes gave? Like I just came across 3 fics in a row that did this.
Or am I the only one that actively doesn’t like it when Harry gets the same wand in fanfics?
So many stories have Dumbledore using different spells, rituals and potions to bind people to him. Not just Harry.
I want fics where Dumbledore is super manipulative and can get people on his side without spells or anything.
It’s fine if he does it to Harry because he’s too powerful and Dumbledore isn’t willing for anyone to be close to his power.
