Bed Bugs in our Airbnb
My wife and I decided to stay in Rosarito from Thursday to Sunday to celebrate her birthday. We rented an Airbnb close to the beach, and everything started off great. The place had great reviews, and the host was extremely nice.
The first night, I got a few bites but brushed them off as mosquito bites. By Friday night, I noticed more bites around the same area, but I still figured they were from mosquitoes since we’d been out and about all day. This morning, I woke up with even more bites and noticed a pattern that made me suspect bed bugs or fleas.
After lunch, I couldn’t stand the itching anymore, so I bought some anti-itch cream on my way back. Once I got home, I started searching. I spent about 20 minutes checking my side of the bed but couldn’t find anything. Then I checked the headboard, and voilà—I found my first bug. The more I looked, the more I found. Most appeared to be dead or squished, but after a few minutes, I found a live one.
I contacted the host immediately. He offered us either a downstairs unit with a full refund or just a refund if we wanted to leave. We chose to leave and booked a hotel in downtown Tijuana. It turns out he had fumigated the place in July for bed bugs and spiders but hadn’t checked whether the treatment was successful.
We ended up using the refund money on a nice dinner and a fancy hotel for our last day.
