I want to request a copy of my full 5 year DM history with an ex. Does it notify them that I'm doing this?

If I'm requesting a copy of my history can the former ex stop it? It's not for any legal etc. There are just some things in there I'd like to have a copy of, etc. And some things span longer than a mere screenshots.
