Fixed vs Mechanical Broadheads | Data on 511 Elk/Deer, 1296 whitetails, 154 African game

I reviewed multiple studies/datasets on mechanical vs fixed broad. Hopefully this helps decide whether or not you should run mechanicals on elk this year.

H.E.R.D.
What if we could finally replace opinions and forum debates with real recovery data on which cartridges, bullets, and broadheads actually perform better on elk?

Today I’m launching the Hunter Effectiveness Research Directive (H.E.R.D.) — a large-scale, hunter-driven study focused on real-world shot recovery rates for both Rifle and Archery on public land elk.

In this video I break down exactly how the study works, what data we need from both weapon systems, and how you can join.

THE TWO CORE DIRECTIVES:
→ Rifle Effectiveness
→ Archery Effectiveness

(We are also running a Calling Effectiveness track, but Rifle and Archery are the primary focus of this launch.)

HOW IT WORKS:
You hunt like normal. When you take a shot attempt (rifle or archery), you drop a simple onX pin with a few preset notes and add it to a pre-named folder. At the end of the season you send that folder to my team. We analyze the data and share the aggregated results publicly.

This is how we move from passionate opinions to actual numbers on recovery rates.

SUPPORT THE PROJECT:
Running H.E.R.D. takes real resources for data management, analysis, and content. If you want to help make this successful, consider supporting my Patreon. Your support directly funds this channel and the research that helps us deliver better insights for the entire hunting community.

This is bigger than one season. This is how we build real knowledge for public land elk hunters — rifle and archery alike.
