Miracle tomatillos?

A few months ago I moved to a new apartment and finally had space to grow some plants.
One of the first things I did was buy some chillies from the store and planted the seeds.

As the plant grew I felt like the leaves didn’t really look like a chilli plant. Too big. But the plant was healthy and growing well so I let it be thinking maybe I’m wrong. I’m no expert.

Then about 10 days ago, the plant started getting a bunch of little white flowers. I was looking forward to having some chillis soon!

But these are not chillies!
The fruit on the plant looks like it might be tomatillos???

I have no idea how that could have happened!
Tomatillos aren’t really common in my country and can only be found in the super fancy stores costing a small fortune. And I know I planted chillies!

I’m thrilled about the (possible) tomatillos but I’m so confused!
