My partner and I have been together for close to 7 years, and I've noticed just within the past few years that she lies or flips the narrative on things she tells me. For example, we were on a road trip and had just stopped for gas. We got some snacks and drinks that I put in the backseat. When we got on the road, I asked if she wanted her snack and she said no. So we drive for maybe 30 minutes before she blurts out, "Can you please hand me my snack? I've only asked you 5 times now." Only, she NEVER asked me for it. Not once. So did she say it in her mind and think she said it out loud?
Another example. We were in Nashville for a concert and as we're walking to the venue, she says, "I've been all over Tennessee, but not here." Those words, verbatim. But then she was talking to the couple next to us at the venue about how she's been to Nashville but never that venue, so I corrected her. She then says, "That's not what I said. I said I've never been HERE, as in the venue. Not Nashville. I've been here many times. You just don't listen to me." And that's it, right there. She is always claiming I never listen to her, but I DO. I am a great listener. All of my friends and family know this and have told me as such.
So, what is this? Is she intentionally gaslighting me or is she mixing up her words on accident? I feel like I'm going insane.
