It’s a self contained story that is the first in a six-book series (of which I’m almost done Book 2 and pieces of Book 3, which are both on track for around 80,000 each) that scales up in scope and length.
A boy sold into slavery and a girl locked in a tower both learn the same truth: compassion has a cost. 48k MG/YA crossover fantasy. Looking for beta readers who enjoy character‑driven stories, political undercurrents, and morally complex antagonists. Themes of agency, survival, and the quiet ways children resist the systems built to contain them.
