2004 m3 wont shift into gear .
TLDR: I replaced the brake light switch and now the car shifts in gear but wont move. I have an smg and the transmission light but not this time.
So ive had the transmission light for a bit it comes and goes and comes when the car is warmed up (after driving for a bit. This part is important)But then it was gone for a momth and then came back. At a full stop it wouldnt shift from 1st to 2nd. Even in 1st it would have no throttle and soemtimes it would just go into N. Id have to turn the car fully off and restart it before moving. I had a brake light also. Last week the transmission issue happened again so I parked it and today I tried changing the brake light switch cause I heard that might just be causing it.
Alas, I changed it and turned it on and put it in gear (after waiting the mandatory rev drop and temp needle moving up) and the car wouldnt move like the transmission issue from before but there was no transmission light (you know the yellow gear). Usually that would come up when the car was warmed up. So i don't know if i screwed up the brake light switch replacement or if its my smg cooked.
I am planning on getting the manual swap anyway but I was hoping I could at least drive it to the shop.
