KNX Awards 2026 - Devices

In case you haven't seen it: the KNX Association opened public voting for the Product Award. Many products released in the last two years, voting closes 31 August.

Full disclosure first: we're one of them, with the Windancer 2.0 GPS KNX sec. So yes, we'd be happy with your vote. That's not really why we're posting though.

The list is worth a look on its own. There's an EV charger, a window sensor, LED drivers, IoT routers and hubs, a stack of push-buttons and touch panels, and three weather stations, ours among them. Two years of KNX releases on one page is a decent snapshot of where the standard is actually heading, and a fair bit of it never makes it past the manufacturer newsletters.

KNX weather station comparison 2026 — updated chart, grouped by wind measurement principle (manufacturer post)

Disclosure first: this is Elsner Elektronik, a German manufacturer of KNX weather stations. So we have a stake in this and you should read the tables accordingly. u/ItalyExpat's 2023 comparison chart has been the reference in this sub for three years and he asked for comments on it. We sent ours, and he suggested we post them here instead of keeping them in a DM.

Everything below comes from manufacturer documentation: datasheets, installation and operating manuals, ETS application descriptions and manufacturer product pages. No shop listings, no distributor pages. Retrieved 30 July 2026. Rows are sorted alphabetically by manufacturer. Full ranges, tolerances and the source for every wind principle are in the comments — the tables are kept narrow so they survive on a phone.

Wind in m/s. Dir. = wind direction.

A dash means no. An empty cell means the manufacturer does not publish the value — never "no", never "bad". That matters most for KNX Data Secure and for wind accuracy, both covered in the comments.

No prices. List prices move, differ by country and go stale faster than a Reddit post does. Putting a number or even a price class next to a competitor's product that we can't keep current seemed like the wrong trade.

Why group by wind measurement principle

Because it's the one difference that changes how the device behaves in the situations you actually buy it for — hail, snow, sub-zero, turbulence around a parapet — and it's the thing most comparison tables leave out. There are three principles in use:

Mechanical. A rotor or cup anemometer turns in the wind. Long established and well understood, has moving parts and bearings, and can ice up. Our own Windancer is in this group and the same caveat applies to it.

Thermal / electronic. No moving parts. Thermal designs heat an element and measure how much the airflow cools it, or compare a sheltered and an exposed temperature sensor. Nothing can seize, but the measurement is indirect.

Ultrasonic. Transducers measure the transit time of sound pulses across a gap. No moving parts and wind direction without a mechanical vane, but very heavy rain, hail or snowfall can attenuate the signal.

Two notes before the tables. Most mechanical devices are specified from 2 m/s, which is a rotor start-up threshold, not a limitation of the range above it — reading it against a thermal device's 0 m/s floor as "can't see light wind" over-reads the number. And only some manufacturers publish a wind accuracy figure at all, so comparing a published tolerance against a blank cell is not a comparison.

Three devices here run on bus power alone: Theben 140 basic, Siemens AP 257/51 and the MDT. None of the three has a rain sensor. Our own device in this group is at the other end of that trade — it has the rain sensor and the GPS, and it draws up to 60 mA of auxiliary current, the highest in the group. Which of those two ends you want is a project decision, not a ranking.

Every device in this group needs power beyond the bus, including both of ours. The ABB sensor additionally needs the separate Weather Unit WZ/S 1.3.1.2, and the Gira 8380 00 in Group 1 needs its control unit — worth pricing in before you compare a headline figure.

Group 3 — Ultrasonic

Two suppliers, that's the whole group. The two WAREMA order numbers are one device in two set variants, REG and AP (sensor 2047095 plus KNX secure sensor interface 2065317 or 2065318), which is why they share one row.

Our own manual for the Suntracer KNX pro states that very heavy rain, hail or snowfall can attenuate the ultrasonic signal to the point where no correct reading is output. We have no equivalent statement from WAREMA either way, so treat that as a property of the principle to ask your supplier about, not as a difference between the two devices.

Group 4 — Not classified here

These four are here because we did not find the measuring principle stated in the manufacturer's own documents. That is a statement about what we could read, not about the devices. ABB documents a thermal anemometer for the newer WES/A 4.1.1 but only the range for the 3.1. Some of these will look like Group 2 devices if you compare the numbers, and a few of them almost certainly are — but classifying a device on a family resemblance is exactly the kind of guess this table is meant to replace. If you have a manufacturer document that states the principle, post it and we'll move the row.

Manufacturers we did not find a KNX weather station for

We found none in the current catalogues of Zennio, Steinel, Weinzierl, Lingg & Janke, Thermokon and Ekinex. Arcus-EDS has KNX outdoor sensors but no full weather station. The Loxone Weather Station Tree is Loxone Tree, not KNX. We're listing this so you can see which way the search went, and so you can correct it — Gewiss and Vimar above were both missing from our first draft until someone went looking specifically for Italian manufacturers.

Also deliberately out of scope: single-purpose outdoor sensors — wind-only, rain-only, brightness-only, pyranometers. There are more of those in KNX than most people expect and they don't fit in a weather station table. Separate topic.


Corrections welcome, particularly on Group 4 and on any order number or range we've got wrong. We'd rather be corrected here than have this sit uncorrected for three years.

Manufacturer here: Windancer 2.0 KNX weather station, now with Data Secure (from €347.90 net)

First post from our company account, so a quick intro: we're Elsner Elektronik, a KNX manufacturer from southern Germany. We build a broad range of KNX devices, but our home turf is sensor technology, above all sensors that protect the building: wind, rain, sun. So chances are some of you have parametrized one of our weather stations at some point.

We recently launched the Windancer 2.0, our cup anemometer weather station, now with KNX Data Secure. The hardware is unchanged from the previous Windancer generation, field proven and wind tunnel tested up to 200 km/h. New are the electronics and the software.

What's new in practice:

* Completely reworked ETS application: new menu structure and context help on every parameter, so for day-to-day work you rarely need the manual

* Wind threshold teach-in: trigger the current wind value at the object as your alarm threshold instead of guessing a number

* Wind values switchable between m/s and km/h

* Rain delay can now be set to 0

* Rain sensor integrated, no separate part to buy and wire

* GPS version adds sun position tracking for shading control

List prices (net): €347.90 for the Windancer 2.0 KNX sec, €426.05 for the GPS version. The previous non-Secure models are 20% off as run-out items while stock lasts, in case Secure is not a requirement in your projects.
