Appliance: whirlpool duet washing machine GHW9100LW1

Part: Washer Water Inlet Valve WP8181694

Is there a trick to removing the wire connectors from this part? I don't want to damage the wires, but I cannot get the connector to detach from the part I'm trying to replace. I did try pinch with needle-nose pliers, but no luck with that. Any tips? Do I just need to apply more elbow grease?
