Hi all!

Living in a rented basement place and noticed something that looked a lot like a silverfish run underneath the toilet this evening. Wondering what the best way to go about getting rid of them is as I don't want my paper/fabrics chewed on.

Upper tenants have a dog and two cats so I don't want to use any sort of poison/chemical bait that could cause dead bugs to be hazardous to them.

I imagine moisture to be a major issue in that wall as it borders the shower and plumbing, however as it's a rented place I can't exactly tear out some drywall to check. I run a dehumidifier nearly 24/7 to combat what I can of the moisture and I attempt to keep the humidity at ~40%.

Located in Southern Ontario, Canada if it helps for product availability or what will/won't work.

Thanks in advance!

Hi incoming first years!

I'm seeing a number of posts with interest in engineering programs at Guelph so I figured I'd make a thread to try and answer some questions that you may have. I just graduated from the BME program so I can provide a decent overview of the entire engineering degree at Guelph. Happy to take questions about the program or just Guelph in general.

Congratulations on your acceptances!

Hi everyone,

I just finished my B.Eng in biomedical engineering last week, and this week I'm faced with the harsh reality of having been rejected from every graduate program I applied to (4 separate schools, all Canadian).

My goal was to go straight into a M.ASc followed by a PhD and and up in biomechanics/sports injury research. I thought I may eventually pursue a professorship in engineering with a focus into biomechanics research. As a result, doing a M.Sc instead would not keep that door open for me (Canadian licensing requirements, professional engineering hour accumulation, etc.)

My grades were there, with a CGPA of 81.6 and a final 4 semesters average of ~89 (things got significantly better in my third and fourth years compared to my first two for a host of personal reasons that I did indicate in my application). I imagine my LORs were highly positive (but they're blind to me), I have research experience, and a strong technical background, but essentially my rejections came down to being in the "wrong degree" with my potential supervisors wanting someone in mechatronics or mechanical engineering (albeit for BME positions), or being from a least prestigious school (a high B tier if you will), or just complete lack of funding (sucks but at least that is out of my control).

I'm going into the summer with a part time job (Maybe 2 if I'm lucky) to cover rent and maybe a bit more to put aside for further education. Going into industry would be a challenge for me as I left my co-op program years ago to fast track into research. My partner got accepted to a M.ASc back where we did our undergrads and I'm at a loss on things like where I move to (if I move?) and what to even do now that I've got nothing for the fall. So much is up in the air and I'm at a loss on what to begin to do about it. A small few programs in my province are still accepting applications, however it's not super realistic for me to move cities/provinces on my own. I've reached out to any remaining connections I have left to see if there's any opening for me but the chances there are slim.

Any advice or support from those who've been where I'm at would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read, much love and best of luck with your own applications.
