I have a question. My father was CSRS Retiree from the government and worked enough after he retired to get his Social Security credits, but the WEP took away most of it and he got a check for about 25 bucks a month. I know the legislation passed a little while ago, took away the penalty and CSRS retirees are getting their benefits recalculated.
My question is my father passed away a few years ago and never had his benefits recalculated. I am wondering if there’s any retroactivity that we could get calculated and perhaps my mother could get a higher survivor benefit because her Social Security also is minimal because of her lack of work experience.
If anyone has had a similar situation, I’d be curious what happened and I’m going to make an appointment with the Social Security people to speak to them and see if it’s even possible.
