Long-haired cat/ neutered male/ 2 y/o
Hi vets, I’m hoping to get some advice or hear from anyone who’s dealt with something similar.
My cat has a history of chronic diarrhea, and for a long time we had it mostly under control with a prescription gastrointestinal diet. It wasn’t perfect, but it helped a lot.
Recently, he developed bladder stones and now has to be on a prescription urinary tract diet. Since switching, his diarrhea has come back and now happens at least twice a week.
I’m feeling stuck because I know the urinary food is necessary for his bladder health, so switching foods doesn’t seem like an option right now.
Here’s what we’ve already done:
Stool test at the vet: negative for parasites and anything abnormal
Blood work: overall normal, but vet mentioned possible IBS/IBD
He gets FortiFlora daily for gut health
No other major symptoms besides the diarrhea
Has anyone managed a situation like this where your cat needs two different prescription diets that don’t seem compatible?
I’m especially wondering:
Are there safe ways to manage diarrhea while staying on urinary food?
Any supplements (fiber, probiotics, etc. besides Forti Flora that helped your cat?
I’ll definitely be following up with my vet, but I’d really appreciate hearing real experiences or ideas to bring up with them.
Thank you
