My colorblindness experience
I am pretty new to this group, I did a lot of research before I went to MEPS and I have already signed my contract and I ship out in August. I am going to be a Hospital Corpsman. I have some college experience(kind of irrelevant to this post) and I am going in as an E-2 (about 43 credit hours). I am red-green colorblind, I did the test at MEPS and got 1 out of 14 correct. My goal was to go nuke or some sort of aviation rate but from what I have experienced it WILL disqualify you from a majority of rates, but not all. I am looking forward to going off to bootcamp and start a new life, but if you are colorblind you will be disqualified from some rates. I am making this post to help someone who may be the way I was, my advice is to do some good research on what jobs need color vision, and know a handful of other rates you would be interested in before going to MEPS, it will help a lot. I am also pretty sure you can’t get a waiver for colorblindness, it’s not like a medical issue that can be healed(as far as I know). Even with colorblindness there are still LOTS of opportunities the navy has to offer.
