Replacing Shower Knob

Hi everyone! I am a total newbie when it comes to home improvement type of jobs. I've always had landlords/property management companies that were on top of it. However, in my current home my landlord is a very sweet older woman, but getting anything fixed is damn near impossible unless it's an absolute emergency (that's another topic though)

There are two showers in my house, one of them the knob doesn't work to turn on water unless you use some kind of pliers to turn it. We have three kids and that's supposed to be their shower but because of this it got to the point where they use our shower because it's such a nuisance. SO I want to try to replace it myself. Yes - I have already been flagging the issue to my landlord for over a year now, she's brought in multiple different handymen to take a look at that (along with the other issues) but nothing ever got done.

Basically my question is - for anyone that has done this before, is there a process of how I should start first? I googled it but it seemed very straight forward buy the new knob and go for it but since I am such a beginner, I want to make sure I do this right 😄
