I felt I had my f4i pretty dialed but it’s developed a long crank when cold starting. It’s not all the time but frequent enough to be embarrassing to be cranking for 6-7 seconds. Once it’s hot it fires up immediately within a rotation or two.

I did take the tank off last month, drain it, clean it and replaced the inline filter attached to the pickup (which was nearly completely blocked) and the fuel return filter (metal scrubby). The problem seemed to improve temporarily but came back with a vengeance. Again the tank is spotless inside with 100% fresh fuel. When riding it feels pretty good in the upper RPMs if a little jerky and unsteady down low. I’ve had the bike 8 years and I feel like it was always rough below 4K rpm.

New battery, charging system works fine, new plugs and cleaned the filter last year. Has a slip on exhaust for the last 8 years.

The only thing I can think of is I’ve never done a valve adjustment at 24k miles. I’m told the symptoms would normally worsen as it gets hot if that were the case but the bike starts immediately when warm/hot. What’s going on here?
