Holidays are so expensive during half term - how do parents with multiple children afford traveling in August?

I'm contemplating taking mine kids (8 and 7) out for a week, no doubt I'll get a fine but even at £320 this fine is still much cheaper than going during the peak times in July and August months...

It is so sad that schools enforce this as so many parents will just never be able to go on a proper summer holiday.

Any tips or is there a dedicated Reddit for this topic?
