Went through the ringer

Last night my cat (10 months old) unfortunately began to vomit. It lasted from 7pm till around 2am. Because it was so late and because I don't have reliable transportation, I bunkered down and tried just to care for him as best I could. Keeping him hydrated wasn't an issue since he drank on his own. He hasn't had any diet changes, uses the litter box fine, and overall his routine remains the same.

While normally I would be rushing to an emergency vet, his attitude this morning confuses me greatly. He is tired but not lethargic, getting up to stretch, climbing his tower, scratching his posts. He's not super active, but he follows me as usual around the house, nudges for pets, and seems interested in his toys. Part of me wants to still go to the emergency room, but another wants to monitor him and see if he improves. I'm afraid of giving him any sort of food, his stomach is definitely out of sorts. I haven't seen him use his box yet, but it was normal when I cleaned it yesterday.

I guess I just really want to know at what point can I confidently say "I need a vet".
