I made a Korean language app for beginners and it's made a profit already. I made a video some time ago showing the behind the scenes process a bit:

It's in Korean but I subbed it in English so you can see what I'm doing with Claude Code when it comes to app development and management. I was going to continue making videos, but my files got corrupted today and I lost all my footage lol. Hoping to share more insights going forward, but yeah, don't let people tell you that you can't vibe code a profitable app.

Hey r/beginnerkorean 👋 I built a Hangul + vocab app called HAN•GL and just shipped a flashcard system I think you'll like.

What it does:

  • Free Hangul course that teaches you the letters and the story behind why King Sejong invented them (genuinely interesting and helps the shapes stick)
  • Once you finish, you unlock vocab lessons grouped by topic so you can build your own deck around what you actually want to learn
  • The flashcards are "smart" — cards you nail gain EXP and eventually get marked as mastered. Cards you miss lose EXP and come back more often, so your weak spots get more reps automatically
  • Batchim rules and the full letter set stay accessible as a reference whenever you need them

Platform:

  • iOS and Android

Format:

  • Self-paced in-app lessons, no live teacher
  • Story-based learning

Pricing:

  • Free:
    • Full Hangul course + a chunk of vocab lessons
    • Enough to actually learn to read and use during your trip to Korea)
  • Premium subscription:
    • $4.99 (USD) / month or $29.99 (USD) / year
    • Unlocks the full vocab library and flashcard system beyond the intro
    • Pricing varies by country

It's been out two months, it's just me building it, and the roadmap is basically whatever learners ask for. If there's something you wish existed for studying Korean, drop it in the comments and I'll probably build it. Happy to answer any questions below — please keep them in the thread rather than DMs so everyone can see.

P.S. It also has hanja for the vocab 👀
