Made a grille in the Land Cruiser style. Happy with the results. Before and after plus a side view.

Materials:

*note all hardware I used was black

Tools:

  • Small hand saw
  • Dremel w/ grinding attachment
  • Melting iron

Steps:

  1. cut out old grille center with hand saw
    1. Don't cut too close to outside of grille
  2. use dremel to grind down the small "posts" left behind by the center supports of the grille
  3. use melting iron to smooth down the rough surface
  4. mock up billet
    1. I had to bend the mounting tabs a bit to get the shape I wanted
    2. I did not use the included hardware with the billet
  5. mark where holes will go
  6. drill holes
  7. put large rubber washers on the outside of the billet, connecting to the inside portion of the grille
    1. This will reduce the small gap between the billet and the inside portion of the grille and also act as a vibration insulator during driving
  8. put 1 large washer on outside of rubber washer
  9. slide bolt through
  10. metal washer on inside of grille
  11. add blue loctite
  12. add nut
  13. tighten only a bit more than hand tight so you don't crack the grille support
  14. On the rear of the logo, grind the center mounting tab and the supports on the outer mounting tabs away from the
  15. measure and mock up the Toyota logo.
  16. I used masking tape and a tape measure to set it up
  17. scratch some paint off with a scotch brite pad where the logo will adhere to the grille
  18. clean with alcohol or similar solvent
  19. add permatex emblem adhesive to both sides
  20. wait a few min for solvents to evaporate before adhering
  21. place logo on and use masking tape and zip ties to hold it tight to the grille
  22. After 24 hour, remove zip ties and tape and add silicone to the rear of the emblem where it contacts the grille for extra security since the emblem is held on only by adhesives
  23. make sure to remove any excess that's visible from the front
  24. Add new zip ties for another 24 hour wait until silicone dries
  25. cut off zip ties
  26. mount up the grille!
