Made a grille in the Land Cruiser style. Happy with the results. Before and after plus a side view.
Materials:
*note all hardware I used was black
- OEM 4runner Grille
- APS Stainless Billet Grille
- Land Cruiser Grille Emblem
- Permatex Emblem Adhesive
- Silicone
- 4x large, thick rubber washers
- 8x medium metal washers
- 4x bolt
- 4x lock washer
- 4x nut
- blue loctite
- zip ties
- scotch brite
- isopropyl alcohol/similar solvent
Tools:
- Small hand saw
- Dremel w/ grinding attachment
- Melting iron
Steps:
- cut out old grille center with hand saw
- Don't cut too close to outside of grille
- use dremel to grind down the small "posts" left behind by the center supports of the grille
- use melting iron to smooth down the rough surface
- mock up billet
- I had to bend the mounting tabs a bit to get the shape I wanted
- I did not use the included hardware with the billet
- mark where holes will go
- drill holes
- put large rubber washers on the outside of the billet, connecting to the inside portion of the grille
- This will reduce the small gap between the billet and the inside portion of the grille and also act as a vibration insulator during driving
- put 1 large washer on outside of rubber washer
- slide bolt through
- metal washer on inside of grille
- add blue loctite
- add nut
- tighten only a bit more than hand tight so you don't crack the grille support
- On the rear of the logo, grind the center mounting tab and the supports on the outer mounting tabs away from the
- measure and mock up the Toyota logo.
- I used masking tape and a tape measure to set it up
- scratch some paint off with a scotch brite pad where the logo will adhere to the grille
- clean with alcohol or similar solvent
- add permatex emblem adhesive to both sides
- wait a few min for solvents to evaporate before adhering
- place logo on and use masking tape and zip ties to hold it tight to the grille
- After 24 hour, remove zip ties and tape and add silicone to the rear of the emblem where it contacts the grille for extra security since the emblem is held on only by adhesives
- make sure to remove any excess that's visible from the front
- Add new zip ties for another 24 hour wait until silicone dries
- cut off zip ties
- mount up the grille!
