My friend is staying in a women’s PG called Maheshwara PG in Muniswamy Layout, Bengaluru.
She joined only 2 months ago and paid a refundable advance. Recently, the management informed all residents that they must vacate by the end of this month because the building is undergoing renovation. However, they are refusing to return the advance amount that was collected from the tenants.
There are also several other issues:
Residents must be present before 8:00 PM to get proper dinner. If they arrive later, they are only given leftover food prepared in the afternoon.
The quality of food after breakfast is very poor.
The washing machine has been broken for the last 7 days, and no effort has been made to repair or replace it.
Despite asking about the advance refund, the management is not providing a clear response.
Is it legal for a PG owner to ask tenants to vacate due to renovation and still refuse to return the refundable advance? What actions can the residents take in this situation?
Any advice would be appreciated.
