Moving from Canada to USA

Hello,

I’ll be moving from Toronto to the Bay Area and am looking for some advice on the relocation process.
I’m hoping to bring some of my furniture with me rather than selling everything and starting over. Has anyone here used U-Haul U-Box or U-Pack for a Toronto to Bay Area move?

I would like to know about your experience with pricing, transit times, customs, and how easy the process was overall.

I’m also open to other moving/shipping options if there are any services you’d recommend.

Thanks in advance!

Double standards and imbalance expectations between me (30F) and my husband (32M)

My husband (32M) and I (30F) have lived together for 4 years, and I’ve always been the primary person responsible for cooking and cleaning. One recurring fight in our relationship is that whenever I get my period, I want him to step in more and take some of the load off without me having to ask.

We’ve had this conversation many times over the years. Every time, he says he’ll be more mindful and that things will change, but a few months later we’re back in the same situation.

Yesterday one day before my period, I had a rough day at work and still ended up cooking and cleaning by myself. My husband has also been busy with work and has been getting home late, so I understand that he’s tired too. But I kept hoping he’d notice I was struggling and jump in. He didn’t, and I felt really hurt and frustrated.

When I finally expressed how upset i was, I wanted him to listen, and acknowledge how I was feeling. Instead, he told me to leave the room, which made me feel even more frustrated and alone.

Later during our conversation, he brought up sometime that further disappointed me. For context, my husband recently received an opportunity to work in Silicon Valley where he would earn roughly what we currently make combined. We aren’t moving, but it came up because he said that if we did move, he wouldn’t be comfortable with me not working, even though my visa situation and work experience would likely make finding a job in the U.S. very difficult for me. His view is that we should both continue working because he wants us to maximize our wealth creation.

This is what further disappoints me. He expects both of us to prioritize earning income and building wealth. Yet when I ask him to take on more household responsibilities for a few days each month during my period, his response is that he needs me to constantly remind or “nudge” him.

To me, that feels like a double standard. It feels like I’m expected to contribute both financially and domestically. Does anyone have experience with navigating this type of imbalance of expectations and how to resolve it with my partner without having to ask the same thing over and over?
