Adding a new 1 1/4in knockout to main panel

Hi All,

I posted yesterday regarding adding a new EV charger install. It seems most people are suggesting adding a new sub panel, and then relocating the top most 2 pole breaker to this sub panel. This 2 pole breaker is a 20A circuit to a water pump. I would then run conduit from the new sub panel to the garage for the charger install.

I wanted to know where the best place would be to add a new 1in or 1 1/4in knockout in order to add a sub panel to this main panel.

The right side of the panel is the service meter, and the left side is the generator backup panel.

Is it safe to add a new knockout in the bottom left corner, right under where the generator service feed is coming in? Or where best should I add it?

The sub panel will go in the basement on the wall, which is below this main panel on the interior of the house. As you can see, I will route it the same way the existing house sub panel is being fed, down and into the basement.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Thank you
