Advice for Upcycling

Hello, I'm considering reusing a pair of worn out jeans by turning a bit of it into a pin cushion (preferably including one of the pockets on the outside to hold some of my related tools)

I've included photos of the pair on the chopping block, because I think the damage isn't really fixable by hand without using a different pair of jeans for patches. I've also attached photos of my sewing supplies (there are 23 spools of thread inside, just out of white)

Back on topic, what stitches should I use if I'm making a pincushion by hand and do you have any online sources you recommend for a beginner? ( I used to embroider by hand but it's been years since my last project)

Tldr: Any advice for making a pin cushion from broken jeans, or any sources that explain how?

What English spelling is taught overseas?

In non-english speaking countries that teach English, whether in a mandatory class or an optional elective, do they teach American spelling or UK spelling?

Are students penalized for using one over the other; is it fine as long as your spelling stays consistent or is it fine as long as the word is spelt correctly by at least one standard? (As in, favourite and favorite or Colour and color are both acceptable just not Kolor)
