I applied for a new card a week or two ago, was approved with no issues. This is my second CC with Citi and I was tracking the new card progress in the app. A day or two before the new card arrived, I get the option to add my new card to PayPal and Apple Pay. Tried adding to Apple pay, there’s some issue and I get a message to call customer service.
When I call customer service they put a fraud warning on my card (I don’t know this until I log into the Citi app later), and they tell me that they need to send me a physical letter in the mail with a reference code for verification. They don’t mention there is anything wrong but that they just need to do this as an updated process. They quote me 7-10 business days for it to arrive.
What the hell is this? I follow their instructions and provide any necessary info they ask for, and they put a hold on my new card?
I’m assuming they didn’t like me trying to add the card to Apple Pay before I had the physical card, but why give me the option to do that in the app? Seems incredibly stupid
