I’m a first time applicant planning to apply to Iowa State (my in-state) and WSU.
My stats:
•Biology major at state school known for competitive pre-med program and no veterinary classes (meaning I’ve taken the exact same classes as pre-meds)
•3.89 GPA
•180 hours research experience
•~2500 hours as a veterinary assistant/receptionist for a small animal and exotic clinic
•40 hours shadowing at rural mixed clinic
•3 vets and two professors as recommenders
• Leadership board of a popular art club at my university
Things that I’m talking about in my application essays/experiences section:
•I was the illustrator of a children’s science book in collaboration with a biologist
•Studied abroad for a summer
•I was really active in collegiate choir and amateur boxing
•I’m really interested in diagnostics (pathology) and research as opposed to small animal GP
•One supplemental essay is being written about the importance of research into the impact that our state’s water quality has on the health of livestock and companion animals in rural regions
