Studying veterinary in europe

i’m an Indian student who just gave their neet exam. I’ve always wanted to move abroad. Now admissions are closed in most if the european countries except moldova and bulgaria which are also budget friendly. Is it worth going to these countries for undergrad or should i pursue veterinary sciences in India?

Adding research grants to VMCAS

How do I enter research grants into the VMCAS? I had applied to the grant as a privilege of being a TriBeta member, but not everyone who applied recieved the grant. Would this go under awards or under scholarships in the achievements section?

VMCAS "complete" - with or without letters?

Update:

- Took a few hours for status to turn from "received" to "completed" (didn't do anything on my part). So seemed to be a system lag?

- Verified after 1.5 days. Not all three letters were in by the time verification happened.

- TLDR: for verification, three letters need to be requested, but not all three need to be received.

----

I was under the impression that you just need to have requested 3 letters, not received all 3 letters, before your application can go into verification (assuming all transcripts have been received). I thought so because this page says:

"Completing Your Application

Your application must be considered "complete" to be placed in line for verification. In general, an application is complete when:

  • All official transcripts are posted to your application and appear in the Statuses section with the date they were received.
  • At least 3 of your recommendations were requested and listed under Recommendations.

"

I requested 3 and they are all listed under Recommendations. I went ahead and submitted some of my programs, expecting that my transcripts will go into verification while I work on some other supplemental essays. I wanted to get verified early in case one of my school's transcript gives me trouble (weird unit system with no clear conversion guideline). Was shocked to see the status not turning into "complete."

Digging a bit more, apparently, somewhere on that same page VMCAS also says, "Please note, however, that we will not review your application until all of your transcripts, payments, and recommendations are received." Like, what the hell!? They are charging so much money and can't even be consistent on such an important thing? Please tell me I'm not tripping here..?

Should I apply to a lot of schools this cycle?

I apologize I’m a wordy individual and my anxiousness is not helping and also I’m just going to put a trigger warning up here as I have some implied sensitive content about myself in my circumstances which is appropriate labeled below. ⚠️

So I am getting a bit anxious about applications this cycle and I’m wondering if it’s really worth the money to apply to as many schools as I’d like with my current gpa and I’d just like some advice. Below I’m putting my stats and please be honest with me.
I have graduated with a total gpa of 3.62 at my school. My total gpa is 3.67. My major (biology) gpa was 3.46, but my total science gpa is around a 3.5 due to high physics grades and extra chemistry grades. My prerequisite gpa jumps depending on school but the range is from 3.5 to 3.8. My final 45 hours gpa is a 3.97.
For experience, I have worked at a pet store and farms for around 3 years combined and have around 2000+ hours with animals ranging from small to large to exotic. I have interned at two mixed practice vets for 300 hours and one of them is writing me a recommendation. I was hired as a vet tech after graduation and have gotten 300+ hours from my new clinic and will be there until I get into vet school. A vet at this clinic is also writing me a recommendation. Volunteer hours are around 600. I have around 300 from high school since I participated in like 10 extracurriculars and most of them were volunteer work. In college I was apart of a cultural club and environmental club as well as the president of our pre-vet club senior year which gives me around 300 more.
For recommendations I’m getting them from those two vets, my research professor, the professor I’m closest with, my supervisor for my radio manager job that I did for 4 years at school and my minor professor since I have a second minor is creative writing that isn’t science related. I have so many because the vet schools I’m applying to are asking for a wide variety of recommendations.
For jobs I have worked at a pet store for 2 years, a shearing farm 1 year, at various vet clinics for 3 years, as a radio manager for 4 years and a biology, chemistry and basic music tutor for 1. I also have a variety of clubs to list.
For some circumstances I most definitely plan on using that section since I have a lot of them. I’m just warning what I’m going to say might be a bit sensitive for some people, so proceed with caution. Freshman year was rough on me and I had come from one of the only unsatisfactory high schools in the country (US) and my state and it still is so I made some bad grades first semester and have retaken to improve some of them. My second semester was rough but it got better. In my second year I suffered from some pretty severe anxiety and ended up being diagnosed with autism and to add to it my dog I’ve had since I was 6 died. In the year after I moved in with some people and we had a very severe falling out with them and ended up almost doing some things to myself that I will not dive into but I ended up going to the doctor and was diagnosed with a form of mood disorder (they’re treating me for MDD) and I got ok some meds that have helped me and my grades improved drastically. But in the summer I ended up withdrawing from an important class due to health issues involving thrombocytopenia and medical anorexia. And during this time I also lost one of my best friends, one of our goats who I had raised since he was a baby. For the most part my mood improved that year though as I used my bad events for motivation and my senior year grades are almost perfect. My only hiccup (and I should say it was probably a big one) during my final semester. The day after my honors research presentation in the last month of school my mom suddenly died and I’ve been having to handle her estate for the last few months due to her being mentally ill and having no will. I also have been having some issues this summer during the application cycle as I am dealing with a possible endometriosis diagnosis due to a large cyst on my ovaries and an unknown eye condition that is being monitored.
I apologize for the lengthy post but I just wanted to cover all basis, to get an idea of my chances. I also apologize for the sensitive content, I’m sure not everyone enjoys that on a Monday.

Btw the schools I’m looking to apply are: UF, Clemson, LM, NCS, and VMVC.

Please let me know what you think and thank you for any advice.

I wanna study VetMed, But I am having trouble picking colleges/universities to attend to

Hii, I'm still in my JHS years, currently grade 10; senior high na ako next year.

also next year lilipat kami sa Lipa City, Batangas.

For a while now nahihirapan ako sa ano ba talaga ang gusto ko, I could really say I'm a great student -High honors- usually nakukuha (except last year kasi nagpahinga ako sa burnout).

UPLB - Top school for vetmed; problem ko lang ay UPCAT, 13 out of 100 people lang nakakapasa which nakakadoubt you para saakin. Weakness ko pa naman ay math

Gusto ko talaga sa UPLB, Dream college ko ito, UPCAT yung pinoproblema ko so much.

Gusto ko sana may Back ups pa ako, CVSU ang backup ko, very high hopes din ako dito, since maganda din ito for vetmed and familiar din ako sa place since cavite kami rn; still I'm wondering if there is better options pa

Need help

Hi,

I'm currently about to enter into my last 2 semesters of my bachelor in biology and im kinda freaking out. I originally wanted to be a biologist but switched to veterinarian because its still what I like doing while also seemingly making a much better salary. My problem is I've really been lazy in school and I have a 3.1~ gpa. I live in Florida so the only vet school here is the University of Florida which is a 3.7 average. If I lock in and get a 4.0 for these 2 semesters I believe I could get it up to a 3.4-5, and thats only if I get an A+ on all of my classes, which are hard. Is there still a way to get into UF with this? If not, then what other options do I have?

Thanks

Illinois AP Credit Requirements

For Illinois AP Credit requirements, their website states "AP credit/IB credit must appear on the college transcript, and we require an official letter to identify those credits."

My official transcript already maps out the course that I accepted AP credit for (i.e. PHYS 218 Mechanics). Do you know if the official letter still required in this case? What official letter are they referring to (by College Board)? Apparently the letter is also due on 9/15.

Applying this cycle — should I take my remaining upper-level courses at a 4-year university or community college?

I’m applying to vet school this cycle and would love some advice on my remaining prerequisites/school choices.

Stats:
BS in Sociology + BS in Criminology from Virginia Tech
3.9 undergrad GPA, Summa Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa
~3.7 current GPA (basically sGPA/last 45)
2,000+ veterinary hours (CSR + VA)
200+ surgical hours
200+ shelter medical care hours
10+ wildlife shadowing @ aquarium
60+ urgent care hour (just started as VA at urgent care)
• Misc additional shelter/wildlife/veterinary experience

Courses completed for vet school at a community college:
General Biology I & II + labs
General Chemistry I & II + labs
Physics I + lab
Microbiology + lab
Cell Biology
Medical Terminology

Remaining:
Organic Chemistry I & II
Genetics
Biochemistry

My target schools are VMCVM, NC State, UF, Texas A&M, UGA, and LIU.

I originally planned to take Organic I & II, Genetics, and Biochemistry at a local 4-year university because some of my target schools require/prefer certain upper-level courses to be taken at a 4-year institution.

However, I'm realizing that the 4-year university's fall course schedule doesn't work well with my work schedule, while my local CC has sections that fit much better. The CC is also significantly cheaper.
I'm also a little concerned because I already took Microbiology and Cell Biology at TCC, and I'm wondering if that could already affect my eligibility at some schools.

So, would you:
A) Take the remaining courses at the 4-year university to keep as many schools open as possible, despite the scheduling issues/cost?
B) Take them at the CC because it's much more affordable and fits my schedule, and accept potentially limiting my school list?

For those who have applied to UF, TAMU, VMCVM, NC State, UGA, or LIU, especially with CC coursework: what would you do? Am I overthinking the 4-year vs. CC issue, or is it worth rearranging my work schedule and paying more to keep certain schools open?

Unsure about which school to pick

I chose RVC but I'm not sure if its the school for me. I don't want to end up there and feel miserable for 5 years. The course that I want to do is veterinary medicine but I just feel unsure about RVC. I read online that RVC teaching quality is not as high as the Scottish schools and the most important thing for me would be support and teaching. From what I read ,a lot of people have mixed opinions on RVC. I tried to ask people I know who are headed there but they just seem so excited.

Is it normal to feel this way or should I relook at other schools? The cost is so high that I don't want to regret my choice when I get there...

Any advice? How did you know that your school was the right one for you?

Thank you.

Feeling Hopeless

So i'm planning to apply this cycle and did somewhat of a recovery semester this summer where i retook a lot of classes and boosted my last 45 gpa. I also took an upper level course at my uni and unfortunately my sister tried to off herself 2 days before my final and so I missed the final and my professor stuck to her absolute no retakes rule.. even with documentation. So i ended up failing the course. Now I feel like that ruined my chances of getting in this cycle bc not only was it a prerequisite but it was also an upper level one and I wouldn't be able to retake it until the fall. Last fall my house also burnt down so my grades that semester also slipped and i failed gen chem 2 but have since retaken it and gotten a b. I feel like vet schools will view this as a pattern but really i've just had a rough year. I'm fine with even going to sgu or ross at this point , but idk if it's even worth applying this cycle. any advice ? i know that's what the explanation statement is for but is it even worth it at this point ?? i dont want to throw thousands down the drain to apply if im obviously not going to get in.

Submitted VMCAS app - missing doc alert?

Finally submitted my VMCAS app! All transcripts and 4 recommendation letters have already been in and were received over a month ago. My status says “received” but the message is below it says “Your application has been submitted, but you are missing required documents. If you have confirmed all your documents have been received, please keep in mind that the status update can take up to 24 hours once the requirements are met.”
Did anyone else have this happen? Payment went through for VMCAS and supplemental app fees. I’m not sure what else could be missing, but hoping this is just a normal post submission message 😬

Bullets in experience?

Hi everyone, I'm having the absolute time of my life with my VMCAS application. Definitely not overthinking at all.

Anyway, I have always heard to be really concise with explaining my experiences, that admissions read a lot of them so they don't want a whole story because that is what your essays are for. But now I keep seeing that paragraph form to reflect on them is a good idea.

Thus far, I've done bullet points, explaining what I did and reflecting a little, while staying really concise. Am I going in the wrong direction? Should I be seriously explaining? I feel like the small character count is so we DONT explain a lot. I don't know, please send help.

Hesitant about pursuing vet med

I’m not sure if this fits in with the subreddit, so sorry if it doesn’t

I spent the summer working as a vet assistant (first vet experience). I rlly liked it, I am super interested in science and medicine and how it relates to the vet field. And I have genuine passion for helping animals. But I have one hesitation.

I can get queasy seeing things like surgery, insides of an animal, etc. I once shadowed an OVH and had to step out due to feeling light headed. Even one time seeing a coworker squeeze at a ruptured cyst grossed me out.

I understand in vet med though I need to see and perform on things like this. Anyone else deal with this and you got used to it over time? Or should I seriously consider different path. Any advice appreciated, thanks :)

Trouble picking schools (seeking advice)

Hey guys,

I've been accepted to Iowa State in early May, and plan to leave in 3 days to settle in, however I was just accepted to Long Island University today (very last minute) and need to let them know by this Saturday.

For context I live in NYC (Queens) and am mentally prepared for Iowa, I would be close to family if I choose LIU but would probably need to find a apartment/house near campus. I am aware LIU has no teaching hospital and but know a couple of students currently in LIU who've had positive experiences so far.

Just a bit confused on what to do lol

Veterinary experience

I’m sure this question has been asked plenty of times, but how in the world do you get veterinary assistant experience, especially as a college student.

I’ve applied to SOO many clinics and even applied to jobs an hour away just to not even get selected. They say “you need experience” but how am I supposed to get experience if I can’t get hired? They also seem to prefer high school students for selection which makes finding a job harder as a college student.

Some people say just to start off as a kennel assistant, but I’ve worked as a kennel assistant and it’s genuinely draining to clean up dog poop and pee everyday just to not progress anywhere in a vet clinic even after expressing my interest.

Any advice?

How am I doing?

Hey everyone,

Im currently a nurse wanting to apply to vet school. Im just struggling to get enough hours. I plan on applying in 2027. I have a bachelor's in biology (3.94 GPA-I still have to take some prerequisitecourses) and I completed an accelerated bachelor's of Nursing program. I was in school for my Doctor of Nursing Practice but I withdrew after my first semester when I realized this wasn't the career I wanted. I do have some research experience but not a lot -I created a poster presentation on how the attractiveness of pollinators to humans affects conservation efforts (honeybee vs. Bald faced hornet) and had to complete a research project as part of my nurse residency program for work. I have been an RN for about 1.5 years as ICU then psych. I shadowed at a general vet clinic for 105 hours, where then I was hired as a vet assistant and currently have 145 hours. This vet clinic also has a cat rescue that I volunteer for (28 hours). I volunteer at a wildlife center (55 hours) and I also volunteer at free clinic for humans that dont have health insurance (42 hours). All of these will have more hours by the time I apply in January. Im also a single mom to a daughter under 1 year old who I have most of the time. Im exhausted trying to get all these experiences and working almost full time. I just wanted to know if its feasible, or if Im on the right track? Because I dont have a lot of experience. So I guess what Im trying to ask is- Is what Im doing enough?

Internship or research?

Hey yall, I’m having some trouble deciding what to do with my next summer.
The options currently are really either an internship or research.
My stats currently are:
Vet hrs: 1240 (all in small animal)
Animal hours: too many to count
Research:
25 hrs in diary research
25ish hrs in wildlife research (data analysis)

I’m mostly have difficultly choosing, because I think an internship would be better, but I’d get paid for research and be able to keep my current jobs over next summer if I stayed. I also really love dairy cows, and the next research trial I’d do, would most likely be dairy again. I feel like an internship would diversify my vet hours more, but I liked the independence research gives (and it’s paid).

My animal hours mostly come from dairy and horses.

2 gap years

I see most people taking 1 gap year, but I plan on taking 2 gaps years (one for working and one for application cycle) to get more clinical hours.

Is 2 gap years common or is it too many years?

Edit:

Omg thank you for all the responses! Definitely makes me feel a lot better about taking 2 gap years!!
