First short comic (total beginner) looking for feedback on...
Hi everyone!
This is my very first post on Reddit, so hello. I’m getting started from scratch with visual storytelling and comics, and I’m trying to improve by learning and putting in the hours. I came by chance to this community and loved the idea.
Here’s a short webcomic I made about an absurd robbery at a store, with an unexpected ending. I’d really appreciate any feedback you can give me. Some specific things I’m wondering about:
Does it make sense to combine different styles? (see pag 3)
Are the speech bubbles readable? (I put a "shadow" on them to give them more presence and also I did them by hand).
How are the composition and shading?
Does the comic have a good rhythm/pacing?
Is there anything else I’m not noticing yet?
Any feedback would be really appreciated. I’d also love recommendations for things to read or study, whether that’s comics, graphic novels, or beginner-friendly books like anatomy guides, “comics 101” type resources, or anything similar if you may have any.
I’m starting completely from zero, and these pages were only possible thanks to a lot of effort and tutorials. I didn’t even know what a layer was when I started, lol. I am using krita by the way and a graphic tablet.
Also, the style may not be a deliberate stylistic choice yet. I don’t really know how to draw, so I’m doing what I can with the limited resources and skills I currently have. I’m mostly trying to avoid making the same mistakes over and over without getting feedback beyond family and friends so I can tell more histories with a more resourceful hand and eye.
Thanks in advance. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts :)
(PD, the comics of beetlemoses where a big inspiration to get started on this as a side hobby, while I keep working 9-5)
