Hi,
Searching for information to make some big life decisions.
For context : I'm a 40 yr old female, 212 lbs, 5'6" (my BMI is 34, apparently), and have been trying to conceive for 3 months. I have PCOS and have thyroid/metabolic issues that are being treated with Metformin and Levothyroxine (by a endocrinologist). I do strength workouts 3/times a week, cardio 2/week, walk pretty much everyday, and eat pretty healthy.
I'm really unhappy with my weight. I've done weight watchers and all the various weight loss strategies since I was in highschool. My weight has fluctuated a lot, and I've always struggled losing and keeping it off.
Currently I am trying to eat high protein and low carb. I'm very self-conscious about how I look. I lost 30 lb (down to 185lbs) in 2022 under weight watchers but it's been slowly creeping back. Now I'm the heaviest I've been since highschool.
We have been on the fence about having children for years and now the clock is truly ticking. I'm feeling a bit panicked.
Do I go on Wegovy for 6 months to try to lose about 30 lbs? Wait 2 months for the medication to clear my system, and try to get pregnant again at a lower weight? But I'll be older maybe 42 before we had a child? But the child may have better health outcomes because I'll be at a lower weight.
Do we keep trying to conceive now at my higher weight? 212 lbs. And possibly have worse health outcomes for myself and my child? But I'll be having a child at 41 and I won't have to wait to lose the weight?
My husband is supportive to go on Wegovy for 6 months (for example) and delay conceiving.
Would appreciate your advice and thoughts. How much weight did you lose in 6 months? Especially if you are 40+ and wanting children? Thank you.
