Gfx100 combo with CZ 45 2.8
Hey everyone,
I’m looking into a super compact, high-character daily carry setup for a GFX 100 series body and I’ve been down a rabbit hole looking at the vintage Contax/Yashica (C/Y) Carl Zeiss 45mm f/2.8 Tessar pancake.
Standard Google image searches are a mess because everything gets cross-contaminated with the Contax 645 medium format version, so I wanted to ask actual users here.
For those of you who have adapted this specific full-frame C/Y pancake to the 102MP sensor:
1 How bad is the corner fall-off and vignetting wide open? I know it’s a full-frame lens being pushed past its image circle, but does it produce a hard mechanical vignette, or is it more of a heavy, stylized light fall-off?
2 How does the center sharpness hold up at 100MP? I've heard the Tessar design is sharp in the dead center but can get a bit dreamy or show some halation/glow at f/2.8 on the BSI sensor. Do you find you need to stop down to f/5.6 or f/8 to get a clean image across the frame?
3 If you've used it on both the GFX 50 and 100 series, did you notice a massive shift in rendering? Does the higher pixel density of the 100 series ruthlessly expose the lens flaws, or does it just give it a unique, hyper-detailed hybrid look?
If anyone has any uncompressed sample images, landscape shots, or street photos shot with this exact combo, I would love to see them. Also, let me know which adapter you're using (K&F, Fotodiox, etc.) and if you've run into any internal reflection issues.
Thanks in advance!
