What A Career Shift From Aviation And Hospitality To Data Analytics In UK Looks Like
my_qualifications: BBA in Aviation, Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Management with 7.16 CGPA. Currently learning Data Analytics skills like Excel, SQL, Power BI and Python through self study and online courses.
Hey everyone,
I really need honest advice from people who have actually studied or worked abroad.
I did my BBA in Aviation, Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Management. Honestly, my college was terrible. We barely had proper teachers, many lectures never happened, and I feel like I learned almost nothing from the degree. I wasted a lot of money and time there. I also never had real interest in aviation or hospitality in the first place, so now I’m stuck with a degree I don’t even want to work in.
Right now I’m more interested in Data Analytics. I started learning on my own from YouTube, practicing Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python. I actually enjoy this field way more than my original degree and I want to build a career in it.
My consultant is suggesting I go to the UK for a 1-year Master’s in Data Analytics/Data Science. But I’m really confused after reading mixed opinions online.
Some people say:
UK Master’s is fast and good for career switching
You can get international exposure
It helps with networking and jobs
But others say:
It’s too expensive
1 year goes by very fast
Job market in the UK is bad right now
International students struggle to get sponsored jobs
Without experience it becomes difficult
My second option is Germany because public universities are cheaper, but I know Germany usually prefers stronger academics, sometimes German language skills, and the process feels harder.
Another thing confusing me: Should I first try getting 1-2 years of experience in Data Analytics in India before going abroad? Maybe that would make my profile stronger and help me get better jobs after Master’s?
My profile:
BBA in Aviation/Hospitality/Travel & Tourism
CGPA: 7.16
No internship experience
Learning Data Analytics on my own
Interested in switching from non-technical to technical field
Financially I would probably need education loan + maybe scholarship
I just don’t want to make another bad decision and regret it later like I regret my bachelor’s degree.
People who did Master’s in UK or Germany:
Was it worth it?
How hard was getting a job after graduation?
Is UK still worth it in 2026 for international students?
Is switching from non-tech to Data Analytics realistic?
Should I gain experience first before going abroad?
Would appreciate honest answers, even if they’re harsh.
