What countries to pursue masters in mechanical engineering if I wish to get into Research

Hello everyone, I am currently a 3rd year student (cleared 2nd year) in IIT Bhubaneswar with a CGPA of 8.92 over the 4 semesters. Can I get Admission into a German Public Universities for masters as a BA psychology student?

my_qualifications - I am currently a student of Rajasthan university and will be completing my "BA in psychology" by next year, my programme is 4 years long and 8 semesters, I have started learning german and plan to do my masters abroad in germany. My grades are around 73% right now. What are my realistic chances for getting an admission there?

Edit : I can opt for English-taught Management, HR, or Global Studies Master's programs in germany as a BA psychology graduate? It does not have to be pure Psychology masters

Is it something worth taking the risk to pursue MBBS abroad with loan? What challenges should I keep in mind?

I'm a partial neet dropper , my_qualifications: is IISER . I'm thinking of pursuing mbbs abroad, and I started preparing for IMAT. Other than that I'll be applying for China as well.

If i do get in Italy, I would be taking an education loan of approximately 40 lakhs with yearly disbursement. I do not want to return to India. I will be continuing in EU countries as an EU mbbs degree would be very helpful. My parents will be supporting an extra 30-40 lakhs that might be needed.

I know some of the risks, the high living costs and everything. Other than that can you tell me what challenges i might face or I'm overlooking. I'm willing to take a risk. Right now , I have 0 interest in india, and I am trying for Neet but I'm preparing to not miss the dates of MBBS abroad or I'll have to wait another year.

Thanks for reading.

24M | What is the better long-term move: Stay in Tech (~28 LPA, 2 YOE) or switch to Strategy/Finance abroad via MiM/MBA?

Hey everyone, looking for some brutal honesty and advice on my career trajectory. I’m currently sitting in big tech, but I desperately want to pivot out of pure backend development and eventually move abroad.

My Profile/My_Qualifications:

  • Demographics: 24M, Indian
  • Undergrad: Tier-1 Engineering (NIT) | CGPA: 8.98/10 | JEE Adv AIR 7k, CBSE 10th: 97%, 12th State Board: 98.4%
  • Work Experience: Will hit ~2 YOE by June 2026 as an App Dev at a Global MNC. Building enterprise supply chain apps and AI tools, recently upskilled heavily into AI (holding Data Science & Gen AI Pro certs).
  • Current Job: ~₹28 LPA (Base + Equity), 18LPA Base. This is great for my age ig, but it makes the opportunity cost of quitting for a Master's pretty heavy.
  • Leadership: Led my university’s flagship techfest. Managed a ₹1.5 Crore budget, cross-functional teams, and 100k+ footfall.

My Goals:

  • Short/Mid-Term: Confused between staying in tech industry and look for a job switch abroad(possibly UAE) or Pivot into Tech Strategy, Product Management or Consulting. I want to move abroad (US, Europe, SG, Middle East or Australia) for better living conditions, global exposure, and higher earning potential.
  • Long-Term: I eventually want to start something of my own. I need the network, business acumen, and capital to make that happen.

My Dilemma - Which path makes the most sense?

Path 1: European MiM (HEC, INSEAD, St. Gallen) right now. My profile seems to fit the 0-2 YOE demographic. I’m willing to learn French/German. But am I crazy to leave a ₹28 LPA job in India for a MiM where European taxes and entry-level salaries are not that peak?

Path 2: Wait and apply for a Top Global MBA next year. If I stay at my current job, prep my GMAT, and apply next year, I’ll have roughly ~3 YOE by the time I actually matriculate. With my high undergrad stats and college leadership, is 3 YOE enough to realistically crack top international MBAs (INSEAD, LBS, Kellogg, Booth, MIT Sloan etc.), or will I still get auto-rejected for being too junior?

Path 3: Do a tech switch to abroad: Financially much safer. No massive student debt, immediate foreign income (potentially tax-free if UAE) if I can land a job. I don't want to do pure backend forever, and I’m worried about the long-term stability/ageism in pure tech roles post 10-15 YOE.

Prepping for the GMAT right now and trying to figure out what to target. Would really appreciate any unfiltered advice from folks.

Do you plan to settle abroad long-term or return to India eventually?

Hi everyone,
my_qualifications: 12th pass and considering studying abroad in the future
A lot of people move abroad for studies thinking they’ll figure things out later, but over time perspectives about career, family, lifestyle, money, and “home” can change a lot.

For those studying or living abroad, do you see yourself settling there long-term, or do you eventually want to return to India? What’s influencing your thinking the most right now?

What are my chances of getting into a decent US grad school?

Hello fellow Indians,

I will be applying for Fall 2027 admission cycle later this year. I am done with my 1st year Master's program with a cumulative GPA of 3.73 (3.6 in 1st sem and 3.86 in 2nd sem). I had a pretty rough undergrad (cumulative GPA of 3.1) due to psychological and mental health issues which went undiagnosed and am yet to fully recover, though I was in top 5 of my class of 30.

I have a few achievements here and there and some research experience like I had done a poster presentation in an international conference, won 2nd prize in a state-level quiz, a year worth of research experience in undergrad during my thesis which eventually lead to a 1st author paper, cleared a highly competitive entrance exam to get into a prestigious university for my masters and now in a decent lab with a decent PI with whom I can get a publication and later by the time of application will be working in another Pl's lab with decent repu and connections.

But ik I am not an exceptional or outstanding student to write home about but since last few years I am trying to show constant improvements but idk if that matters anything to admission committees. am worried about my low GPA and in dilemma whether to take GRE or no to offset it. I don't know where do I stand and how I can improve my chances in the meantime. I am searching for good research groups rather than schools and most of those groups are in T20 schools of particular major not overall. Given the current geopolitical and brutal admission cutoffs by US administration and my low ug GPA and not so competitive Masters GPA, I fear I may not pass this cycle of admissions.

If anybody of knowledge/experience can guide me through this, it would mean a lot to me and I shall remain indebted. Thank you for reading and time.

What should I pick, EE at a top IIT or EE in Germany

Hey guys, kinda stuck with a big decision right now.

JEE Advanced got over recently and I should probably get a rank under 2k. Nothing is guaranteed obviously, but I’ll most likely get EE in a top 7 IIT.

The thing is, I’m interested in quant finance and stuff related to that. I also like core EE a lot, but I don’t really want to go into the usual SWE path.

At the same time, I’ve been learning German since 5th grade and recently cleared the telc Deutsch Hochschule C1 exam. Because of that, I’m pretty confident I can get into TU9/public universities in Germany too.

Now I’m genuinely confused about what to choose. IIT EE vs Germany for undergrad.

Would love advice from people who know about quant, EE, or studying in Germany.

(Finances are not an issue, my parents can easily take care of living expenses+tuition)

98% in 12th
Under 2k in JEE (Pred)

Went to USA for masters, biggest mistake of my life. What do i do

my_qualifications: MS in Business Analytics from Baruch College, NY, USA

I’m sorry but I had no other place to rant. I don’t think I have ever been so disappointed with myself as I’m rn. I went to USA for MS two and half years back with two years of work ex in a different field than my degree. After my degree I vigorously applied to atleast a 1000 places, appeared for maybe 20-25 interviews and all of it was for nothing. i never got hired. And now my time for looking for job on opt has run out.

my biggest regret is I realized a few months into the degree that I never even wanted to do this. I never really wanted to come here. I know I sound like a fool. And I deserve every bit of what I’m getting. I had a decent job back in India, I lived at a good place, my parents home was barely an hour away, I visited them often and I was financially doing well. For this damn degree, I put in all my savings, took out a huge loan on my family home and absolutely ruined my life, all for what? FOMO. I never even wanted to come abroad, I simply did it because I saw everyone else do it. I know I sound like a toddler but I need to let all of it off my chest because even therapy is so damn expensive in nyc. I just saw alot of my friends leaving for different countries and I thought of doing the same. I’m suffering rn for something that wasn’t even purely my own action. This has been so hard to admit because the entire time I kept convincing myself that it was me who wanted it. And I got so damn brainwashed by social media. I wish to god I hadn’t made this choice. If it wasn’t for loans, I would have left this place mid degree. And now my worst fears have come true, I honestly have no idea how I’d face my parents back home because of instead being a supportive member, I just put our house on the fence. The loan is massive, it would take me years to pay it back. I wish to god I could undo all of this. And to top it off, I honestly didn’t even enjoy my time here, I never felt at ease in US. This place just wasnt for me.

Whenever I saw a pessimistic post in this sub about not going abroad because of not finding a job, I always felt huh this would never be me. Guys, please, it can very easily be you. Please don’t go abroad because of falling victim to this herd mentality, please use your own brain. I wish I had. I put everything at stake for something that wasn’t even a part of my plan. I feel like crap. I don’t even know what use of is this degree, the field is literally so saturated. I don’t know what to do or feel anymore. I have been numbly packing my bags since yesterday.

"The study abroad industry asks the wrong first question and I think it's why so many Indian students struggle after landing"

Been thinking about this for a while and wanted to hear from people who've actually been through it.

Every consultant, every agency, every counsellor the first question is always some version of: "Which country are you thinking?"

Canada. Germany. UK. Australia.

And then the entire conversation builds around that answer.

But here's what I've noticed and I'd genuinely like to know if others have experienced this the country question is actually the last question that should be asked. Not the first.

The questions that should come first:

What specific career do you want after graduation?

Not a field. Not "something in tech" or "maybe finance." A real role, a real industry, a real salary expectation.

Does the job market in that country actually hire for that career?

Not in general specifically for your background, your degree, your profile level.

What does your visa path look like 3 years after graduation not just on arrival?

Most people I've spoken to including people who are now abroad were never asked these questions before they left. They were asked which country, which university, what budget.

The result: students who are academically fine but career-lost after landing. Doing jobs unrelated to what they studied. Visa uncertainty they didn't see coming. ROI that doesn't math out.

I'm not saying consultants are evil. I'm saying the order of questions is structurally wrong and it produces predictably bad outcomes.

For people who have gone through this process was the career question ever the starting point for your counselling? Or did it always start with country/university?

Genuinely curious whether this is a widespread experience or just what I've seen in my circle.

my_qualifications: Founder building in the study abroad advisory space as career first global mobility approach. Have personally counselled students across engineering, tech, and finance verticals evaluating Germany, Netherlands, Canada, and UK. Watched this pattern repeat across dozens of conversations.

GKS Interview Tip: Speak slowly — nervousness makes you rush and lose clarity

I wanted to share a simple but important tip about the GKS interview that often gets overlooked:

Speak slowly and clearly.

When applicants get nervous, they tend to speak faster without realizing it. This is especially common in the GKS interview because:

  • You usually only have about 5 minutes per interview.
  • The more nervous you feel, the faster you try to explain everything.
  • As a result, your tone gets higher and your speed increases, making it harder for the interviewers to fully understand what you're saying.

Even if your content is good, if the interviewers can’t clearly follow your answers, it weakens the overall impression.

Why this matters:
Interviewers are not just evaluating your answers — they’re also evaluating how clearly and calmly you can communicate under pressure. Speaking too fast can make you sound less confident and harder to understand.

Practical advice:

  • Be aware of your speaking pace before the interview.
  • Practice answering common questions at a slightly slower speed than usual.
  • If you feel yourself speeding up during the interview, consciously slow down. It’s better to say less but clearly than to rush through everything.
  • Remember: You don’t need to say everything in one breath. Pausing briefly is okay and often sounds more professional.

This is a small habit, but it can make a noticeable difference in how well your answers come across.

Has anyone who already had their interview noticed themselves speaking faster due to nervousness? Or do you have any techniques you use to stay calm and speak at a steady pace?

Would love to hear your experiences.

PS: I used AI to refine the wording (because I'm not a native speaker of English), but the content is based on my own experience. I worked in a Korean university’s international relations team for 7 years, so I’m familiar with how these matters are usually handled.

Why do so many students regret their study abroad destination after moving?

Whenever people talk about studying abroad, the focus is usually on better opportunities, salaries, and lifestyle. But after reading experiences online, I’ve noticed that many students also talk about unexpected challenges like loneliness, cultural differences, difficulty making friends, work-life pressure, and the reality of managing everything alone.

Some say the country they dreamed about felt very different after actually moving there. For those already studying or working abroad, what was the biggest reality check after moving? Was it still worth it overall, or do you think students in India sometimes idealize life abroad too much?

YSK: Do not do masters without work experience.

DO. NOT. DO. MASTERS. WITHOUT. WORK EXPERIENCE.

I don't know how many people need to listen to this but please do not go for your masters without atleast 3 YOE. It's totally fine if you want to go into research and do a PhD but if you want to get into the industry then racking up degrees without experience is just career and financial suici*de. Studying 1 or 2 extra years doesn't make your employability go up, actually WORKING these 2 years makes finding a job atleast 80% easier.

I met so many Indian masters students in Germany who didn't bother with German and on top of that didn't even speak English fluently. They jumped on the Germany masters hype train after they couldn't get placed and now are back home with massive loans.

TLDR: Go for masters with minimum 3 YOE and if you go to a non anglophone country, LEARN THE LANGUAGE TILL B2 before going
