8 yr education gap, 0 workex, UPSC preparation. Can I pursue study abroad for masters

My_qualifications B.Tech Electrical Engg.

I graduated in 2018. Spent all these years preparing for UPSC exam. This year I exhausted all my attempts and age limit.

I recall no knowledge of my graduation, and have a more generalistic outlook. I have no skills as of now. I have no workex.

Considering the state of global economy, job market saturation, forex issues and related stuff and my profile, is it good decision for me to get a master's abroad?

I'm more interested in management or some humanities courses.

Any guidance would be highly appreciated.

TLDR: 2018 EE graduate, 0 workex, 8 yr UPSC prep gap. Options available to pursue master's abroad, or is it worth it?

If my end goal is to do a MBA abroad and a international career, should I skip an MBA in India?

Hi everyone,

I'm 19 and currently in my final year of a BCom (Hons) with a dual degree of data science in India. My long-term goal is to build an international career in finance, analytics, data, strategy, or consulting, and I'm trying to make decisions now that will best position me for that.

---

my_qualifications:

19 years old

Final-year BCom (Hons) student with a Data Science specialization in India

Currently interning at Carlsberg India

Planning to start my career in finance/data analytics after graduation

Current skills: Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, and Tableau

Interested in FP&A, corporate finance, strategy, consulting, and business analytics

Long-term goal: Build an international career and eventually pursue an MBA abroad

---

After graduation, I plan to start in a finance or data analyst role while continuing to build my skills in analytics/ data and finance.

The biggest decision I'm struggling with is my MBA path.

Option 1: Work for about 2-3 years, do an MBA in India (IIM/ISB if possible), work again, and later pursue an MBA abroad.

Option 2: Skip the Indian MBA, work for 5–7 years, build a strong profile (possibly including the CFA), and apply directly to a top MBA abroad.

I'm hoping to understand which path makes more sense if my end goal is studying and working abroad.

Some questions I have:

- Is doing both an Indian MBA and an MBA abroad worth it, or is it generally considered unnecessary?

- Would an Indian MBA strengthen my application to top global MBA programs, or is high-quality work experience far more important?

- If you were in my position, would you invest the time and money into one MBA abroad instead of two MBAs?

- Does the CFA meaningfully strengthen an application or career in finance/analytics for someone aiming to work internationally?

I'm also curious about career progression. If I start as a data or financial analyst, what paths typically lead to international opportunities? Are there particular industries, skills, or experiences that make candidates more competitive for both top MBA programs and global employers?

If you were 19 again with my goals, what roadmap would you follow?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's studied abroad, applied to top MBA programs, or built an international career after starting in India. Thanks!

Used gpt to clean up my ideas ><

Is DMAT compulsory for those whose B.Tech isnt yet complete?

As the title said , my 7th semester starts in 3 weeks, and I was planning on applying for APS as soon as I get my 6th semester transcript in hand. Now, with this new DMAT thing, do I also have to give it? Youtube videos said its only for those who have completed more than 7 semesters, so did Google Ai, but on the official website, it doesnt say so specifically anywhere. It DOES mention its for those whose "PREVIOUS" degrees were in a particular field, but it doesnt mention people with ongoing bachelor's being exempt from it. So could anyone tell?

my_qualifications: entering 4th year

side note: this entire thing is just so blatantly a cash grab. I am all for an examination based certificate, one that judges a candidate's merit, but between GRE TOEFL DMAT and APS, you are just spending 60-80k, maybe more depending on whether you buy practise materials or not.

10th pass out

Anyway hey guys first I want to clear this first Its not specifically about studying since I gave up on that long ago I can neither afford it nor like it so yeah here comes the real thing.

I am pretty good with languages and I recently started learning japanese coz I just really like that country for their food.

Since I am just 15 rn I am trying to get a good high paying job after turning 18-20 and I don't think india is a good place for that.

Also I am learning Japanese and Cooking too I am can do some japanese style food too not many but yeah decently well

I also recently got to know about SSW visas which I can get after passing age requirement and basic language test and exam or interview of the specific field I am trying to get in.

I first have to secure a job after giving the interview online and the rest will be guided by the company and Visa assures that you get as much or more wages than avg japanese citizen.

If you are gonna rant about the difficulty of living in another country I have already learned about that a long time ago ik how hard it is tj adjust to a place which is almost complete opposite of India but I will try my best to do.

Also I will spend my 2-3 year into completing my 12th and getting good at japanese and cooking

What should I choose after my graduation : LLM or MiM or anything else?

Hey everyone!

Basically I will be graduating in Law in 2031. I am from an upper tier 2 NLU. I want to get out of India at any cost. That's my goal for a better life. I was planning for doing an LLM afterwards in the US or europe but the problem is you only get 1yr OPT in the US to find a job and most of the big law jobs are taken by JD people and in Europe you face language restriction. So it's not a globally transferable degree. A few days ago, I came across MiM. I think it's a pretty good degree if I do it from a good college like HEC, Insead, LBS etc. You get a head start in management roles and combined with a law degree it can be pretty advantageous. It also says it doesn't require work experience though 1-2 yrs is good too.

So my plan for next 5yr in law school is:

  1. Focus on my GPA.

  2. Prepare for GMAT. Targeting 700+.

  3. Securing good internships.

  4. Participating in leadership roles.

  5. And maybe getting placement in corporate law for 6months for lil bit of experience.

But I am worried about I will be 25 when I graduate so will it be too late to apply as the average peer age is 23yrs. And Coming from a law background, will it be disadvantageous for me to go against people already coming from finance, econ and engineering background? I don't wanna go for MBA bcoz it's required too much work experience without the certainty of getting a good college.

Plz confirm, is the road map good enough or do I need to improve or change it a bit.

To all the people who regret not getting into NUS/NTU. Why its a blessing in disguise

Over the past 6 months I've seen alot of negativity behind SG and their top universities (alot of the current alumni complaining). Well I'm also a current alumni and let me tell you pretty much all of the negativity behind these universities is justified and to all the people who got rejected/don't have the money to go/considering between universities, trust me, yall lucked out. To most of the students who got in (most of yall are again non Tuition grant students) - well you're basically gonna be treated as cash cows and at the end of your degree, they'll give you a big fat "f off to your hometown" for which also you're gonna get absolutely no support for.

For a more detailed reason on why I'm saying this -

  • Alot of the students who got rejected had applied for a tuition grant. This makes alot of sense cos alot of the Local students + bonded students in here are jobless and the sg gov realises this and they know its a bit unfair for bonded students to be staying here after graduation especially when they have a very low chance to get a job, which is why I'm assuming that they have stopped giving out alot of grants.
  • The issue with the tuition grant was also that every tom, d , and harry got it like 5 years ago (pre covid + 2 years post covid). I had a senior 2 years ago who got around 87% and got into NTU computing with a Tuition grant (which heavily undermined the quality of students coming in). Obv this sucks cos those guys are barely smart enough to do anything and they give a bad rep / ruin the chances for actually talented students
  • The job market is beyond cooked here with our counsellors literally telling us to go back to our own "motherland" and the NTU name is gonna carry you (spoiler its not - nobody gives a f about NTU outside of sg). I had one of my counsellors telling me to become a construction worker (yeah that's how bad things are getting here). And oh yeah did I mention, no special programs for us -> less chance for us to upskill -> lesser likelihood of getting a good job (anyways I'm not gonna rant since plenty of students have already done that)
  • Even if you did manage to get in, there are certain extremely unpopular things that these guys have done over the past few years that genuinely boils my blood and you should be glad that you wouldn't have to deal with this. Stuff like mandatory research instead of work exp/internship, and this is when they know that 99% of the students aren't interested in acads, giving out student buildings to big corp simply cos they donated a ton of money to the uni (students get no benefits btw, internationals have it worse), increasing the food prices and the rent of all the halls by a drastic amount every year to the point that getting housing outside of campus now would almost be the same (usually the difference between prices outside and within campus used to be like 50% cheaper on campus). And there's quite a bit more but you get the point
  • Admin is extremely inefficient and even if you get an internship, they're gonna bog you down with a bunch of unnecessary stuff (other NUS/NTU students have spoken in greater depth about this). my_qualifications

Edit: Just to add fuel to fire, go check out this NTU confessit subreddit to see the level or racism spewing in a school chat :

Which to choose: College decision NTU CS Vs Anna university

Hi, so as the title says I’m debating between what to chose, a month ago I was fixed on NTU as my family is comfortable in paying the fee plus rent (got tuition grant)

I also have a good rank in TNEA for Anna university around 198/200 with that I can get EEE or ECE

But recently I saw a lot of post talking about unemployment problems in sg for international students also the racism being extreme

When I asked my friends and family they sided with NTU due to its prestige of being ranked 12th in world but I’m still confused as job is very important for me after graduation

Do you guys think USA is the only place to be or suggestions on pivoting :')

My_qualifications: UG Mech, 3 yrs of IT work experience now....

It's been a while now, I have been at this higher education thingy for two years now. I primarily targeted usa and got the best of best unis but visa situation messed things up....

And it's just getting to me, I wanted a degree DS/ CS as it aligns with my goals and it helps me to transition into IT better in the long run as I have a mechanical degree in undergrad.

Now, I'm pivoting towards autralia but still I feel it's doesn't compare to what USA is and I'm not sure if it's worth chance in australia or its a big no...

Or maybe shd I target european countries.... But the language thing always bugged me over there and hence australia and I didn't think much about canada...

Pls don't come at me saying it's useless to do a masters, everything is bad etc etc... I get it, I have seen so much now and I feel yeah that's how things are but still I can't wait for a better time to pursue stuff I can just do what is good at the moment and figure things but I really need your honest views, if it's negative and real I'm all in to listen...

I genuinely want the actual ppl to give opinions on this...

My confusion is that if it's worth the masters now or shd I go ahead with an mba itself??

If a masters which country as I can't let go of the fact that anything would be better than USA...

Also I got a f1 reject and due to that I'm actually thinking of it's worth the gamble on usa again as I already wasted three years trying for it...

I mean last year slots not available, the first year I was late to application and this year my first reject so not sure how to pivot out of this

Can Qualcomm engineer considering a 1-year MBA in Europe to move abroad—is the risk worth it?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some honest career advice from people who’ve gone through a similar journey.

My_qualifications
Graduated from NIT Warangal in 2024 (ECE).
I’ve been working at Qualcomm for the past 2 years.
My current take-home salary is around ₹1.3 lakh/month, along with RSUs (currently not significant in value).
I’m okay with my current work—I don’t particularly love it, but I don’t hate it either.

My long-term goals are:
Increase my earning potential.
Build an international career and eventually settle/work outside India.
Because of that, I’m seriously considering pursuing an MBA.

I’m mainly looking at 1-year MBA programs because I want to minimize the opportunity cost of leaving work.
The schools I’m considering are:
INSEAD
London Business School (LBS)
HEC Paris
Cambridge Judge

One important factor is that I don’t come from generational wealth, so I’d have to finance almost the entire MBA through an education loan. That makes this a fairly high-risk decision for me.
I’ve been reading mixed opinions about the European job market, especially for international students. Some people say consulting and product management hiring has slowed, while others say graduates from top schools still do well.

My questions are:
1.Is taking a large education loan for one of these top European MBAs still worth the risk in the current market?
2.How difficult is it for international students to secure consulting, strategy, or product roles after graduation?
3.If your goal is maximizing long-term earnings and building a career abroad, would you still choose one of these schools today?
4.Should I also consider
German business schools instead? The overall cost would be lower, but I’m unsure about the trade-off in terms of brand,
placements, salaries, and international mobility.

I’d really appreciate insights from alumni, recruiters, or anyone who’s made a similar decision. If you were in my position today, what would you do?
Thanks in advance!

Which European Design School Is good for Interior Design?

Hi everyone,

I'm an interior designer from India. My_qualifications include a 3-year specialization course in Interior Design (IIID).

I'm planning to study in Europe and am looking for a 6–8 month Interior Design program instead of a full 1–2 year master's. My goal is to gain international exposure, build my portfolio, and secure a job as an interior designer in Europe after completing the course.

I've shortlisted Domus Academy, IED, FIDI, and Politecnico di Milano.

I'd appreciate your advice on:

  • Are there any other colleges I should consider?
  • Is a 6–8 month course enough to get hired, or is a full master's preferred?
  • Which European country has the best job opportunities for interior designers?
  • How do post-study work visas work for short-term programs?

I'd love to hear from people who have studied or are currently working in the European interior design industry. Thanks!
