Should I get married before moving to Europe for my STEM PhD?

Hi, I’m 26F from India, currently preparing to apply for PhD positions in chemistry in Europe. My main targets are Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, & Sweden.

I’ve also been in a relationship with my boyfriend for about 4 years, and we are seriously considering getting married. He works in the corporate sector in procurement, so if I move to Europe for my PhD, the plan would ideally be for him to move with me and establish his own career there as well.

Does it make more sense to get married before I start my PhD, or should we wait until after I’m settled into the PhD?

I'm not asking whether I should marry him in general. We've already discussed marriage seriously. I'm trying to understand the practical implications of getting married before moving abroad for an international PhD.

I wish to hear from women who completed a PhD abroad while married, or who moved abroad with their partner before/during their PhD.

A few things I'd really like to know:

  1. Did your partner move with you? How difficult was it for them to find work?
  2. Did marriage/spouse residence rights actually make a meaningful difference?
  3. For those in Europe, which countries have been particularly good/bad for dual-career couples?
  4. Anything you wish you had discussed with your partner before moving abroad?

I do not wish to do more of long distance relationship, I want us together. Please help.

Where to buy Bahuboli eggs??

Where to buy these eggs in and around Ambari Fatashil, Dhirenpara area? It goes out of stock so quickly on Instamart/Blinkit/Flipkart minutes.

I've tried Ovo eggs. Half the time, they send rotten ones packed in fresh packets. It's annoying.

Also, if there's any other good egg brand please suggest.

My Maccron haul (also my first ever one)

I got

Snail mucin for 355₹

Peripera lip tint for 197₹

I ordered them from two different accounts. Gets you more discount as compared to putting all in one cart.

I need to learn how to use the lip tint, it's my first purchase.

The snail mucin is really good. Just with 3 days of use, it has calmed down the small bumps I have around my lips. I read some reviews here that it may not work well for humid places, but I'm liking it.

Place of birth issue for passport police verification

I applied for fresh passport. Psk took pan card as DOB proof.

Today at police verification, they asked for birth certificate. I showed, seeing a gap of 15 years in registration, and place of birth as Assam, he started questioning me, because my aadhaar is from Bihar.

He pressured and I ended up telling him that I was born in Kolkata, but my school wanted birth certificate within a week and getting it made in Kolkata would take a month. So here an Assam agent said they will get a Bengal based birth certificate but the agent gave me Assam registration birth certificate. Which is a false place of birth.

I told him that we can cancel that application and birth certificate. And make a new correct certificate in Bengal. But he's adamant on not cancelling. They have called me again tomorrow.

He said in such cases an fir is lodged. I'm scared. I need to get a passport.

What shall I do?

Organometallic/coordination chemistry vs nanomaterials heavy fields, which is actually growing more and suitable?

Hi, I've a master's in chemistry, currently working on Co₃O₄ nanozyme and copper-dmpz complex.
During my undergrad and a year later, I worked on organometallics and even though I find ochem difficult, I was enjoying the research work.

For my master's dissertation, I worked on nanomaterials and I feel like moving away from nanomaterials as my main direction because I keep running into the same loop: empirical synthesis, characterisation that stops at here's the TEM image and UV graphs and very little actual mechanistic explanation for why something works. Feels like a lot of the output is new papers rather than new understanding. I find it frustrating

I want to move toward organometallic and coordination chemistry, and catalysis in the classical sense

Question for people further along than me: based on where funding, publication trends, and industrial pull actually are right now, which of these two is growing faster, and which is the better long-term bet for someone trying to build a research career on actual mechanistic depth rather than volume? Am I underestimating how much nanomaterials work still dominates hiring and funding, even if I personally find it shallow?

Anyone who's made a similar switch, what did you wish you'd known going in?

I'm applying for a PhD, and I don't want to drag myself into something where I've no interest and also no funding.

EDIT: I want to get into industry after a postdoc or PhD.

Can I return the ₹1 sale product?

Same as the title. Also, will I get the refund or not?

I ordered:

  1. a hand mirror, it's plastic but fine to use.

  2. Sweatshirt: looks cute and quality is fine for ₹100.

  3. Tshirt: it's a bad polyester. So want to return it.

  4. A dress: again polyester but I'll keep it for winters.

Do you get refund for such sales or not?
