Italian Computer Engineering student thinking about London. Is it worth it?
I’m still a student, but I’m planning to move to London in the future. I’m Italian, and the job market here isn’t great, so I’ve been looking for a country where I could feel more satisfied with my career. For context, I’m studying Computer Engineering.
My current plan is to first gain 2–3 years of work experience in Italy before moving abroad, so that I wouldn’t arrive in London as a completely junior developer/engineer.
After doing some research, London ended up being my main option, so I’d like to ask people who live there (especially other Italians) for some honest advice.
Do you think it’s worth it?
How’s life there in general?
How bad is the weather really? (I’m genuinely a bit worried about that.)
Is it difficult to make new friends and build a social life?
How’s the work-life balance, especially in tech?
I’d also like to move there independently and support myself financially, at least at the beginning, so I’m wondering how realistic that is for a young person starting out alone.
Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated.
