Harnessed extrinsic motivation
What are your thoughts about this:
I found out when analyzing my discipline throughout life (which has been sporadic) that I'm mostly driven by extrinsic motivation. I've always read that you should learn to be driven by intrinsic motivation, that's how you get to your goals, not other people's goals. I've tried that but it never lasts even though I try to create systems.
But I've noticed that when I get extrinsic motivation (for example a remote running coach where I get assignments on a Google Sheets page and fill it in) I do things more consistently. So, my theory is that my motivation is mostly based on obligations.
If I promise someone to do something (even if it's just implied) I do it without fail. So I'm experimenting with four goals; I created a page with the headline "I PROMISE" in large letters and my goals and streaks.
So far it's been working well. I've done what I wanted to do (exercise, write, learn and practice Italian) every day since (I take 30 minutes for each activity).
