I've read most of Darcy Coats' ghost stories and am currently working my way through Susan Hill's ghost stories. Daphne du Maurier got me through senioritis in highschool. I've reread Rebecca at least 5 times in the last 10 years.

I appreciate a well writen, but easy read. I'm not looking for infinite layers of nuance, political commentary, or other 'high brow' literature, just something to get me through the early hours of the morning after the cat wakes me up for breakfast.

A predictable plot beat with variations in setting, character motivation, and supporting characters is what really tickles my fancy. My favorite part is learning about a new ghost in every story. I really enjoy the creative manifestations of Darcy Coats' ghosts, and the atmospheric horror of Susan Hill's writing. I never imagined fog could be clingy until her.
