Help- changing reward seat to avoid transiting DXB, worried, QF rep unhelpful.
Hi all,
I've booked a classic reward seat booked on a one-way FCO-DXB-PER flight. (one ticket).
I'm concerned about the ever-evolving situation, inc getting stuck in the UAE with voided travel insurance, aside from obvious safety concerns.
There's a direct qf-operated FCO-PER on that day +2 that I'd like to be on.
I've called on two occasions, but the reps are telling me they can only change me to another reward seat, but none available. Cash/commercial seats are still for sale.
(There's very few reward seats left at all for nearby airports, and those few also transit dubai).
I was under the impression that smarttraveller status changed to 'level four: do not travel' in the last month, but have since found it was actually in late Feb. (this was my 'sell' to get them to move me to the QF operated direct flight instead, currently selling one-way seats for A$2700)
I'm absolutely sure there's more the reps are empowered to do, but not sure how to make it happen or how to direct/coach them.
I'm willing to travel from another nearby airport - Milan, Venice etc, and don't mind too much if it adds another stop.
Is there anything I can do?
Do I just have to buy a commercial seat on another airline?
(Bonus question, any issues transiting Istanbul at the moment?)
TL;DR
- reward flight booked on March 30 for late June FCO-DXB-PER
- misunderstood when govt advice changed
- no longer want to transit dubai
- direct flight FCO-PER avail on same date (paid seat only, nil rewards avail)
- posted policy implies changes possible
- rep on phone says nothing they can do, tried twice
- what can they do?
