For background and context I work in an isolated northern mine and I'm a glorified geo tech that mostly works in the open pits. I was apart of a high risk level incident involving the inhalation of unsafe blast gases. While safety is always first and taken very seriously here, I was given props from all the other workers and have since gained quite a bit of respect in the department. Now I've heard it before that "more dangerous=better blue collar job" and that respect is earned through danger... but experiencing it first hand is kind of funny to me. Why is the culture like this for these jobs?
