I recently picked up some dye for my well-loved flats and I’m wondering whether the lighter spots from wear and tear will show through after dyeing them. I bought Angelus dye in red, but I’m worried the finish might end up looking a bit splotchy. My backup plan is to dye them black if the red doesn’t turn out as hoped, but I’d really appreciate any tips or advice before I start!

I attempted to clean some rust with lemon and salt, but it now looks like I’ve taken off some of the coating. Is this still fixable and can I proceed with seasoning, or have I damaged the coating?
